http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... On_HaywoodEDIT: Please select the one you prefer that you think the Heat could get. I understand from the post below that Haywood may not actually be available.
The Mavericks are amnestying Haywood. He's not a perfect fit, but for the amount the Heat could spend (vet min?) that, isn't going to happen. He does have a great mix of bulk and mobility for the Heat though. He can put a body on the Hibberts and Dwights to slow them down a little (not saying he could stop them), and is mobile enough to get up and down the floor to play defense and trail a fast break for a rebound. He may be at a point in his career where he just wants money since he has a ring already, but on the other hand, he is about to turn 33, and the older guys tend to like to chase rings in the twilight of there careers. It couldn't hurt to extend the invitation. How do you guys think he would fit?
EDIT: Darko, Kwame Brown, & Amundson are still free agents too.
Less popular choices might be: B.wallace, Battie, Pryzbilla, K mart
Forgive me if any of these guys have been signed, and I missed it.
EDIT: If you select "other", please expound. Thanks.

He has to pass through the amnesty wire first, which is basically a silent auction. No guarantee he'll ever be a free agent.

Ah, I'm still learning how that new process works. I forgot about that.

No worries. That's what these boards are for.

There's no way he makes it through amnesty. And if he does, I have a feeling he'll go get as much money as he can. He already has a ring, and I'm not sure he's a big Heat fan.

Wow, this might be the nicest board around then.

I edited my post to just throw all the options out there I could think of. I could edit if any others are not really available though.

Really? I never got that impression. Riley went and personally recruited him in his home in North Carolina back in 2010. And when the rumors started at the Big 3 coming together had been predetermined years ago, Haywood said something along the lines that Pat's visit had seemed pretty genuine to him, which would make no sense if he knew Lebron and Bosh were signing.
Which to me sounded like he had no ill feelings about Miami never making him an offer, and maybe still appreciated the effort Riles took in recruiting him. At least, that's the vibe I got

Can a sign and trade occur during an amnesty process? I'm guessing not.

I like Amundson and his hustle. He could be a low risk fit here. There's lots of talk about Oden around here also.
Thought KMart was more of a 4. And I think Wallace announced he was retiring at the end of this last season.

Why No love for Turiaf in the options?
It's not impossible we could get him :
Haywood's $8.3 million salary this season and $27.2 million overall will be wiped off the books, however he will still be owed the full amount left on the next three years of his contract. Haywood will now enter the amnesty bidding process. Teams under the cap will have first shot to bid for him. The team with the winning bid will pay that amount of Haywood's annual salary with the Mavs responsible for the balance.
If there are no bids, Haywood will become a free agent and can sign with any team. In that case, Dallas would be on the hook for the full amount -- but again, with no consequence to the salary cap or luxury tax -- to be paid over a number of years courtesy of a "stretch provision" in Haywood's contract.
this means that if a team under the cap wants him, the'll have to pay him for 4 full seasons. im not sure any team will claim him.
Then, if he becomes a FA - we're right there. could offer the 2.9Mil disabled player exception we'll get from Miller.

I believe only part of his contract is guaranteed.

I voted for Darko. Young, mobile and an excellent shot blocker. Only 27 years old. He lacks motivation, but has been stuck in some pretty crummy situations. If he agreed to sign here, you know Lebron and the rest of the guys would be able to keep him motivated. PEACE.

since we have 3 roster slots open (Miller is not likely to play this year it seems) we dont have to choose just one.
For the 13 spot - Haywood or Darko (whichever we could get/Pat likes more)
For the 14 spot - Justin Hamilton or Jarvis Varnado (whichever looks better in summer league)
For the 15 spot - Oden as a project, ONLY IF Heat doctors are giving the OK.
That way you get 1 reliable vetern,
1 up and comer prospect,
And 1 project that you dont rely on but is a low risk high reward project.

We're gonna pull a Houston and instead of overloading with forwards, overload with centers? Not sure I like. We already have 3 centers on the payroll. PEACE.

It's not like we need more wings. when u break it down we'll end up with :
1 reliable vetern big - Haywood.
Joel - should never play more then 20 minutes off the bench.
Pittman + Hamilton - two rookies, cant be sure what to expect from them.
Oden - likely to never play. at least in the first year here.

I like the what Rex has. I just don't think Pittman and Hamilton are great prospects. I would primarily target Oden, Haywood, and Darko, with Kwame and Amundson as alternate targets. I do like going for a quantity of centers to give you a lot of options, give you a greater chance of finding a good fit, and fostering some competition at the position. Rex is right. You don't need more wings, and let's face it, Lebron and Wade can run the point some if they needed to, so your really already have 4 very talented guys who can play that position as well.
EDIT: . . . and then let future drafts produce the up and coming prospects.
