http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miam ... 1894.storySpoelstra, to avoid wasting the opportunity, has already began thinking of ways to make the team better, meeting with various coaches to discuss strategies. Last week he picked the brain of coach Vance Walberg, founder of the dribble-drive motion offense, so the Heat avoid using last year's blueprint to the title.
"The one thing about Spo, I wouldn't say he's necessarily changing, but it's just a compliment to him how he keeps his mind open to new and innovative suggestions," Fizdale said. "He's willing to look at and try pretty much anything if it fits in the context of what we're trying to do. He's just getting better and better."
Smart. The improvements we make as a team will determine whether we repeat or not.

Filipino Jackson at it again. Last Summer he got ridiculed for going to talk to coaches. He even went out of his sport to get ideas from the Oregon Ducks football coach. Dude is an outside-of-the-box thinker if there ever was one. He shuffled lineups right up through the first round of the playoffs and got flack for that. He does it his way, for better or worse. It's been for the better though.
I'm eager to see what ideas he comes up with for this season. Maybe we can try running the pace and space offense more this season. We were running teams out the building early in the season, but that kind of pace just wasn't sustainable with the kind of defense we play. I think with the success of the Battier lineup in the last two rounds last season, and the bevy of shooters we have now, he'll come up with something that allows us to maintain our defensive presence while still maintaining a high-octane offense.
Say what you will, but he helped us win a championship with one of the least-traditional lineups in history. The whole "positionless" mantra he and Pat have been pushing this Summer suggests we're gonna see something creative again.
I like Spo. I defended him all last season. I still believe we're incredibly fortunate as a franchise to have one of the best young coaches in the league. He's Pat's guy, and seems to love Miami and the organization. He's been nonstop smiles all Summer. I want nothing more than to see him serve out a long tenure down here ala Pop in San Antonio and Jerry Sloan in Utah. PEACE.

Yeah, the pace and space O is still a work in progress, despite the stellar initial returns. I think the addition of more dribble-drive philosophy will really help it out. Calipari would love to have players with our guys' skillsets in his offense.
And in terms of him thinking outside of the box with lineups, I always enjoy this: Everyone credited the Bulls as being one of the, if not the, only team to ever win without a top-notch C. Spoelstra took a gamble going without a traditional C at all, and won.

I have been hard on Spo but yes I can't deny his work ethic.
Though I think finally his plan of pacing and spacing, or that high octane offense, might finally work properly this year.
it worked for a short while during the season, but our shooters weren't reliable enough AFTER the All-Star break, and they seemed to have gotten tired. I'm not sure.
In the end it was LBJ in the post dishing out to 3 point shooters.
But this year we have probably the most reliable 3 point shooter we can ask for, and if Lewis is on top of his game, that's another guy too. Then it depends if our shooters pick up where they last left off.
But I've been excited for the season since we started Ray. Heck I can't wait til a scrimmage or something. I just want to see my Heat team again. Summer League has been ok so far lol.

He needs to add some new cliches to his lexicon. I think we can all agree that's what's most important.

No. We have to stay the course with what we have. We can't let go of the rope.
Spo is our future Pat Riley. Spo already has 1 ring, hopefully he ends up with more than 4 or 5 rings after this run is over.....
in which case, then Spo will have the credibility that Pat Riley had when he coached the Showtime Lakers.... all those times we hear Pat tell stories of the Showtime lakers, well, Spo could tell stories of the LeBron/Wade/Bosh Heat to players 10-20 years from now to help recruit.
Eventually, when Spo hangs up the coaching reigns, he will be our GM like Riley is now

just have to make sure everyone helps Spo out when he's getting outcoached, until Spo grows more. This is definitely a good sign.
Random thought : Phil jackson always had Tex Winter follow him around to Chicago and then Los Angeles, to help him with the triangle offense. I wonder if Spo should have a coach behind the scenes for him too? Up to now, that's been Riley..... but..

Spo is getting better as a coach and definitely growing. He has to find a way to not overwork LeBron next season coming off 2 deep postseasons and an Olympic run. The past 2 years, we've heavily relied on LeBron so next year hopefully he puts in a strict playing time routine for LeBron like he did for D Wade.

You got "love" from my post?
More like, Spo is still not ready and still needs to grow to be able to coach this team. I am still convinced that someone, maybe Pat Riley, helped Spo because everything changed after game 5 of the BOS series. Suddenly Spo was doing great adjustments.... something he is NOT known for and epically failed with his whole time here in MIA, including last year's Finals.
We are stuck with him, so I am hoping everything works out and everyone helps him so he can be our future Pat Riley.

I knew you would open this thread, when I saw you didn't open it I thought you were thinking something like " A couple losses and everyone will be calling for him to be fired again".

Does it really matter where the changes came from? Spo is growing as a coach and gaining the necessary experience and knowledge to succeed in Miami. I wasn't always a big fan of his, but also didn't demand his head when we lost a couple of games. The important part is that he isn't satisfied with our current play just because we won the title. We all know both the Indiana and the Boston series could've gone either way. I'm still hot happy with the way we use all of the Big Three in our offensive schemes. It's still too much of a two-man-game most of the time where one of them is just a floor-spacer and I think the dribble-drive-motion-offense is a good way to solve this problem because it keeps everybody active and involved. With our additions of Lewis and Allen, this plays more to our strengths and covers our weakness, which is the lack of a true post-up center. I'm looking forward to how much of it Spoelstra will use and how fluently it'll run.

LMAO at this deranged way of thinking.
In other news, George Bush actually orchestrated 9/11, and man has never been to the moon.

Miami has been to the Finals two years in a row, just won a title, all evidence suggests that players love playing for Spo and players from other teams respect him enough to want to play for him (see: Ray Allen, Shane Battier).
But somehow he's "not ready" and unable to "coach this team"?
Dude, wake up and engage with reality. Your efforts to maintain your fantasy are approaching Knicks-fan-esque levels of delusion.
