Haslem vs Battier

Post#1 » by krikor » Wed Nov 14, 2012 12:28 pm

PRE-Bosh injury vs indiana last year, our best starting 5 imo was bosh haslem lebron wade chalmers..
then everything changed, we went for bosh battier lebron wade chalmers..
Which line up you prefer? I personally think we should base it from matchup to matchup ...
But my preference goes more into haslem being a starter. Then ofcourse come playoffs we might see ray allen move into the starting lineup role too, we dont know what spo has in mind.LAST YEAR joel was always starter he ended up nowhere in playoffs.

Reg-season 2011-2012:

Starting 4 + Haslem - Off Rtg = 100.78 - Def Rtg = 91.13 - Overall Rtg = 9.65

Starting 4 - Battier - Off Rtg = 106.67 - Def Rtg = 100.96 - Overall Rtg = 5.71

Note: Battier's 3-ball was broken as was Haslem's jumper. The offense was better with Battier because of floor spacing for the B3 and the defense was better with Haslem due to increased interior presence. The Net difference was clearly in Haslem's favor and it was the best starting option going into the playoff.

Playoff 2012:

Starting 4 + Haslem - Off Rtg = 102.92 - Def Rtg = 88.72 - Overall Rtg = 14.20

Starting 4 - Battier - Off Rtg = 115.10 - Def Rtg = 106.87 - Overall Rtg = 8.23

Note: The Haslem option got most of it's burn against the Knicks weak offense and average defense, the Battier option got most of it's burn against OKC's good offense and bad defense and OKC was a much better team then the Knicks. During the final series Battier also was incapable of missing shots. It was like he was Durant from behind the arc. These numbers are very flaky and possibly match-up based.

Looking at the starting unit alone over a regular season I find myself in the Haslem corner. The Heat is a defensive juggernaut with S4 + Haslem on the floor but, one thing that swings it over to the Battier option right now is: if Haslem starts, the inside defense on the second unit would be Battier and Lewis (with the same minute distribution). I'm having a hard time thinking this would be good idea. This is why i think Harrellson should get a chance somewhere along the way.

Voted Battier for second unit balance issues.

good post, but i think one of the reasons we are conceding so much 3's is because of small ball..and needing to give more to protect the paint, which in turn leaving people open outside the arc.

I still stand with haslem as starter.Small ball is ok with me with 2nd unit.

i probably agree with starting UD over Battier. Even if just for rebounding.

None of them deserved to be on the starting five. We wouldn't need to have Battier playing out of position if we had a legit starting C, but tell that to a stubborn GM like Riley who thinks small-ball is effective against every teams in the league.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

Battier played well tonight. drew a few charges, blocked a couple of shots and nailed 3 three pointers. Haslem shouldn't see any playing time, instead use it to practice his jumpers. Mike Miller and Joel should take up his minutes.

Haslem and battier. two role players.

Haslem plying lights out and battier playing like a chump.

Battier cant defend and he cant shoot either.

I think it all depends on who's hitting the jumper & who were playing.

Battier in alot of cases works perfectly as a PF & Space maker but vs. West, you need some size.

Battier this series should be used exclusively at SF unless on Ty Hans for a few minutes. If and when we face Spurs, I see Battier come back to his form and playing alot of PF vs Diaw, who has the speed to get around Haslem.
