Shane Battier

Post#1 » by FinnTheHuman » Tue Dec 11, 2012 11:25 am

Minnesota fan here. I'm interested in your thoughts on this - could any of these get us Shane Battier: Luke Ridnour, JJ Barea, Dante Cunningham, Chase Buddinger, Derrick Williams?

Sorry if I'm violating some rule by making this thread, I have no time to check the rules.

No, I'm just a fan interested in trade speculations. Your arrogance is ugly.

While Chase Buddinger and Derrick Williams have value, Battier is too unique and important for our system, we won't trade him for that kind of players.

Hell no.

Shane is critical to our sysytem. He's one of the best "close out" guys on the team, if not the best.

Kevin love tho....

Shane is to big a part of heat culture down here. Hope he stays with the organization once he retires. Could get into politics though. An amazing intellect.

Oh. I get the picture. I thought he is underused because of all the assets you got in the offseason, and that he could be the odd man out if you get a good offer. Apparently it is not the case. And a possible Kevin Love trade belongs to a completely different discussion, where the deal would probably include Chris Bosh and a lot of other players from both sides, and maybe a 3rd, or even 4th team. Peace.

Agreed. Not unless we're seriously redesigning this team.

Battier is the ultimate role player to a championship team. Intelligent, hard working, calm, sacrifices for team, good for locker room morale.... plays good defense, can shoot the 3 ball.....

Battier is completely untrade-able. He is the basis of our new approach with rotations, because he can guard the 4 and space the floor on offense.

By playoff time he will get almost 40 minutes a game.

I see... As good as he is, you are overvaluing him here, tho I guess assets I proposed don't match his worth. And him playing almost 40 min a game anytime is just a funny prediction.

They won't trade him unless you get someone exactly like him.

They need a guy that loves to play defense that they could throw to the wolves against power forwards, and hit 3s.

He's that guy.

It's not that I'm overvaluing Shane Battier in general across the league. It's that Battier is extremely valuable for our team in particularly schematically, moreso than he would be for any other team in the league. Thus, he's "untradeable", because he's worth more to us by far than to anyone else.

And given he averaged 37.8 minutes per game in the Eastern Conference Finals and Finals last year, I don't think that prediction is unreasonable.

Yes, he is a great fit I guess, plays the roll you need, I just don't see him playing more than 25 min now that you have Allen and Lewis having better 3 point % than him this season. He's also pretty old. Great player anyway, and trust me, he would fit Minny as much as he fits in the Heat, it's just sad for us you need him. :D

He also took a large paycut to play for Miami.

Trading him when he already took such a paycut is just unfathomable. Would erode whatever trust the franchise creates for the players.

Tiny sample size, but wanna guess who leads the NBA in post-up defense per Synergy, allowing just 4/21 FG? Shane Battier.
