WT: Jackson: Dwyane Wade Third-Best Shooting Guard Ever

In Mark Jackson's mind, Dwyane Wade is the third-best shooting guard in NBA history behind Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
“I see a guy that I love as a basketball fan,” Jackson said before his Golden State Warriors played the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. “To me, he’s the third-best shooting guard to play the game.
“People think I’m crazy for saying that. He’s a winner. He competes. He’s an underrated passer. We all know he can score the ball. It’s a lot of fun to watch him on the basketball court.”
Jackson also has said in recent months that he believes former Indiana Pacers teammate Reggie Miller belongs in the category of the best two-guards ever.
Eeeee wut? I thought it is a common view that Wade will be 3rd all time when he hangs 'em up.
Really, one of the most underrated greats.

I still think he can surpass Kobe if he can get to 5 rings and has a couple more great playoff performances. Hopefully, he's saving his best for April.

If it wasnt for his refusal to work on his jump shot he could've been the 2nd best shooting guard ever

I don't even know if that's it. I'd say, if he just took the regular season seriously, he'd be Top2. He's missed a lot of games, and clearly doesn't play the regular season with the same effort as the playoffs. That's something Kobe has over him, is the fire and drive to give it his all every night. At least, offensively.

Kobe's been taking years off on defense. PEACE.

3rd best SG of the past decade? For the love of god folks, they didn't just start playing basketball in this century. Wade is a very good player, and he was dominant short short stretches of time, but 3rd best ever? Please!

Who you got before him?
SG is not as deep as for example center postion(if we consider all time greatness). You've got Michel, Kobe, West, Gervin, Drexler, Miller, Allen and "the rest".
So... which one of: Drexler, West, Gervin, Miller, Allen in better than Wade?
@Kobe - It's true with this regular season thing. Kobe has skillset that promotes high level consistency and Wade has skillset that promotes short-streches dominance. Unfortunately Kobe is one of the greatest as far as durability and consistency is concerned + he is extremely lucky during his career and i think it guarantee him this second spot.

Failedgifattempt.gifKobe jacking up 30 shots to get 35-40 a game doesn't make him greater than Wade. Wade has been the better playoff performer and is as unselfish as it gets. What has Kobe scoring 40 gotten the Lakers except L's? Kobe's never even had a season where he shot 50% from the field.

I would take Jerry West, Gervin, & Drexler over him.

Wade is so underrated it's borderline comical. Mark Jackson gets it. Players, coaches and GM's get it. Durability is the only issue and even that gets overblown. He has all-time great carreer averages, all-time great playoffs and finals numbers, and one of the most dominant finals performances ever. He's an NBA legend, future HOFer, and he's only 30. Baffling how underappreciated he is.

I feel embarrassed for you.
I don't agree with the other two but having Gervin above Wade is a joke and indefensible.

As a non bias observer I reckon wade deserves to be in the conversation as one of the best all time, top 3 is a tough call though, Clyde was phenomenal in his day, joe dumars seems to be forgotten and whilst I didn't see jerry west, he's known as one of the greatest players full stop not just shooting guard position. Without having seen west I can say that the difference between wade and drexler is close. I say drexler was the better scorer but wade is a better defender. In saying that though I've watched a bit of wade recently and to me he looks like a shadow of his former self. Definitely the first of the big 3 to show signs of declination. Kobe at the same age was way better, frankly I don't see wade as being very good when he gets to 34, it looks like his body is breaking down fairly early.

WTHell is this???
I watched Drexler, Miller, West (when I was very young living in LA, and I can personally tell you Wade is in a different tier. Wade's was/ still is when up to it, a FORCE of dominance, a game and team changer ala MJ, Kobe as far as guards goes. Not even close.

Watched them all, and none of them can touch Wade as far as dominance and taking pure scrubs to a higher level.
Wade was/ may still be unstoppable even by the effort of an entire team, and that includes PG, SG, SF, PF and Centers. I've seen it time and time again. Drexler was fast and athletic but lacked skills and handles. Miller was a great shooter but lacked athletic power and handles. West played in a whole different time with much less athletic players.
Seriously, if you watch all of these players play, you'll agree.

Also, NONE of them could break the line like Wade could and finish.
As a defender, you KNEW Wade was coming, good luck! He would cross you over or simply finish over you.

Agree with the last couple posts
I saw Dumars mentioned in the same sentence with Wade.
This year where Wade is supposedly washed up would be one of Dumars best years

Joe Dumars mentioned in the same breath as Wade

Wade is Top 3 talent but only has a Top 5 resume/legacy due to his durability issues. Personally, I easily take Wade over West/Drexler/Gervin but I could understand how others wouldn't put Wade in the Top 3 at least for now. Give it a couple of years and a couple of more rings, people will change their tunes.

Agreed. Wade just doesn't take the regular season seriously anymore, and regular season stats stats are probably the second most important metric used to rank players (after championships won). Unless Wade somehow wins 3 more championships putting up awesome numbers, it's hard to see him passing Kobe. Obviously none of them are touching Jordan.

1. Jordan
2. Oscar Robertson
3. West (the logo)
4. Kobe
5. Wade?
Wade is definitely behind MJ and the Big O. I think Kobe has him beat due to rings, scoring, all time winning %.. Wade is top 5 for sure, probably.
