Haslem gets destroyed in smart ESPN article

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamih ... bound-woesThat the Heat have rebounded worse with Haslem this season flies in the face of all the conventional wisdom. Bosh has actually been a solid rebounder this season, but not when he plays next to Haslem. It may not be Haslem's fault, but if the Heat aren't demonstrably better as a team on the boards with him on the floor, what exactly is he out there for?
To sum up - it basically shows how we rebound even worse when UD is on the court beacuse he's "stealing" rebounds from other Heat players, Mainly Bosh. (to be clear - he does it while trying to help the team the best he can, but the reality is that it's not helping). We know his offense is bad, and that is defense is bad, so if the "he's helping us rebound better" excuse is also gone, you have some tough question to ask going forward.

It's just great analysis that goes deep into the numbers. Most of us already knew UD isn't helping just by the eye test anyway, but If ESPN is devoting articles to this...it must be screaming at insiders and professionals too.
It shouldn't have come to this, Spo is just hurting Haslem's legacy..instead of being rememberd and loved as the great warior that he is..most Heat fans now think of him as a has-been that is hurting the team.
And it also shows how Bosh gets hated on for no real reason.

It pains me to see Haslem getting shafted and exposed right now but it is true. He's not the player he used to be and it does harm us more than help.

I don't get it. If the premise was that Bosh's rebounding numbers are down, then Haslem "stealing" his rebounds could be a direct effect. But that is not the problem being discussed. How does Haslem "stealing" rebounds from his team mates reduce the total rebounds for our team?

He's getting rebounds Bosh would have gotten anyway, he's not adding to the team by getting rebounds Bosh can't get. Also they said maybe the team plays lazier when he's out there and crash the boards less. Reggie Evans for instance would get boards Bosh wouldn't get because he rebounds like a Hound, doesn't particularly steal a rebound that was already there. Haslem is getting rebounds with only his teammates around anyway not like he's out jumping the other team to get it or out hustling them

I'm getting my eyes checked and a new TV after reading this article, because we've been a garbage rebounding team since the Big 3 Small Ball era. The only time we look like we control the glass was with our current starting lineup, which includes our only 3 capable rebounders: LeBron, Haslem, Bosh.
Advance stats: the reason Joel Anthony has a job in this league.

Great article. Stats don't lie.
That's also boxing out which does not show up in the box score.

imo haslem lost too much weight. hes too skinny now, not strong enough to play how he used to plus hes older. season before the big 3 formed he was still very good. mavericks offered him a hefty contract and he opted to stay with the hometown team

to all you haslem haters. who can forget game 4 of the pacers series. in indiana down 2-1 with a relentless pacer team on our heels looking to get a 3-1 lead. wade and lebron exploded throughout but it was haslem who made 4 of the final 5 shots to seal the heat comeback and eventual championship

I hate all this "player x hater" stuff. No one is a hater, everyone on this team has their moments. You have to look at the most recent body of work and evaluate what role a player should have on a team and not be emotional about it. Doesn't mean you have to trade them cut them whatever. But be realistic about what's best for the team as far as the role that they will play on it. I love James Jones but the dude shouldn't see play time. Doesn't make me a Jones-hater. Dude just can't play well enough right now.
