http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--sourc ... 19202.htmlIn its exploration to sign a big man, the Miami Heat will work out ex-Denver Nuggets center Chris Andersen, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Andersen, famously known as "The Birdman," arrived in Miami on Monday for a physical and workouts over the next two days with the defending NBA champions, sources said.
Heat president Pat Riley has been scouring the landscape to bolster a foundering frontcourt bench and appears to be intrigued with the possibility of discovering how much Andersen, 34, has left in his game.
The Heat released center Josh Harrellson on Monday and now have two open roster spots.

oh no ... Jorts released??? how are we gonna survive
Seriously though, I would have loved to see him get more of a chance, but if this ends up getting us more than a stop gap I'll be ecstatic!

I really dont get the Jorts release, we had a open spot anyway...now we just have 2.
Anyway about Andersen, awesome. i just hope he has something left in the tank..he's 34 but used to be a nice player.

Just once I'd like the Heat to gamble on an uber athletic long center like Whiteside.

He's not even getting minutes in the D-league for some reason...put up some good numbers but playes VERY limited minutes..around 16 a game.
How athletic is tis kid anyway? If he's a very good athlete i'd take him regardless of his skill level..just jump around get boards, block shots and get dunks..we'll devolpe the skill over time

Longer than DeAndre Jordan, Faster than Tyson Chandler, also above average free throw shooter for a 7 footer.

Cut JJ Or Pittman, bring in Birdman, Martin and Whiteside (worth the gamble)
Rio/Cole
Wade/Allen/Miller
LBJ/Battier/Miller
Bosh/Martin
Andersen/Joel/Whiteside
We would be so much bigger, stronger, better.

Man, why is Pittman still with the team? Just because his contract is guaranteed?
Wonder if we'll bring back Jorts or Harris if we sign Birdman.

Spo said he looked very good in practice...i dont know what to believe anymore. 3 seasons and we didnt even got a good look at the kid in real minutes. just strange. D-league numbers are pretty good..but from what i saw he's kinda slow..not really a good fit here..not sure what's the plan is. anyway I rather let JJ go...he has no upside and he's not seeing the court anytime soon.
Still a mystry to me how a guy like Whiteside doesn't get a contract in a league starving for Centers..We should grab him

Could be a move to save money if we don't think he's going to work out. Somewhat puzzled we keep dragging Pittman's fat a** around but dumped Jorts after a few minutes of showtime. He must really have sucked in practice or we really needed that spot. Birdman & Martin perhaps? Seems unlikely and uncharacteristic for this team.

Even D league teams are trading him, must be the injury he had

A 23 YO. Superb size and length. People are saying he's also a very good athlete. his block and rebounding numbers also tell us he has good timing. what more can you want in a young project? DeAndre Jordan is making 10Mil$ a year for basically the same skillset. is he super talent or has great basketball skill? not really, but he's a very useful player..especially for teams that can surround him with talent, like us.

Fantastic news.
If the guy could give us a solid 15-18 mins off the bench it would be a HUGE help.
And to be honest an Anderson/Bosh front court sounds far more appealing than a Bosh/Haslem one.
I hope it all works out for us.

oh my....if miami signs him it would mean he has something left so if he can provide 15 solid mins then it would be a great sign

Nice to see some move from the front office, I'd love Birdman for the Heat, he brings a lot of timing and energy inside the paint. About Whiteside I dont know if he has improved much but I saw some of him 2 years ago and he was just a real scrub.
Best case would be birdman + kenyon martin... We'd improve our interior presence so much.
