So, the Spurs went and got themselves one of the top big men in Euroleague. They bought out Aron Bynes contract for 400,000. The Spurs are a deep team and probably because they keep at least 6 international players on their roster. We know Miami is not going to get a Center through NBA waivers....

SO HERE IS THE EUROLEAGUE CENTERS, I've done the research myself.


1)ANTE TOMIC<---- RILEY needs to watch gametape and if he likes him, BUYOUT the contract ASAP! The Jazz drafted him in 2008, but the expiration date for draft rights is 3 years. EXPIRED!

Born: February 17, 1987 (age 25)
Height: 7' 2" (2.17 m)
Position: Center

Currently averaging :
9.5 points per game
5.7 rebounds per game
in 20 minutes per game.

61% FG shooter in euroleague, but 53% FT shooter.

2) BOUROUSIS, IOANNIS <------ another decent choice for us. The Spurs sweet talked him some years ago, but we can convince him to play for us in a starting role instead.

Born: November 17, 1983 (age 29)
Height: 7' 0" (2.13 m)
Positions: Power forward, Center

In his current season, he is averaging :
14 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 24 Minutes per game.
Shoots 75% FT.
Right around 1 block per game in 24 mpg.

He is the #1 ranked Euroleague player in defensive rebounds. #4 in total rebounds. He is also #15 in Fouls drawn.

3) DAVID ANDERSEN ... this guy really wants to come to the NBA, in an interview a few months ago, he said so.

Born : June 23 1980 (age 32)
Height : 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m)
Positions : Power Forward, Center

Last season, averaged 11.7 points per game, 6 rebounds per game.
13 games into current season, he is playing 18 minutes per game and averaging 6 PPG, 4 RBG.

It's clear that we are never going to really play Pittman, we need to try something new. Dump him or someone else and grab a euroleague center!

i am from turkey and andersen plays for fenerbahce in turkey. he is having a nightmare season. he is soft and well beyond the expectations. he is not the andersen of old. he is not the type of guy we need i think.

His numbers are down from last year, as my post said. I wouldn't call it a nightmare season, but his numebrs are down. But still, a 6-11 Center who can get ya some rebounds........we don't need him to score points or do anything but play defense and rebound. We need a big body down there.

Anderson has been in the NBA before & he wasn't that good.

That's some great research and effort you put into this post, but The Euroleague? With Pat Riley calling the shots? Highly doubtful.

Anderson is a 32 year old never was (worse than has been).

Tomic is a possible but just coming up with names of players with stats doesn't factor in the need for a specific tupe of defensive player.

We cannot blow up everything we have for a slow plodding center

I remember Tomic from the draft.

He would have been drafted a lot higher without the cloud of the buyout hanging over him.

Not sure how he has progressed since then or what the contract rules are but we should look into it if we haven't

Beggars can't be choosers. ANY of these guys would at least play some minutes, something that none of our big men except Joel Anthony can do.

In fact, Tomic and Buroussis would actually be able to help out. If we can get a legit 7 footer to grab some rebounds and play some defense for 10 minutes a night, it will help tremendously.

Riley doesn't like european players? Well, tough ****. He needs to start opening his mind, and PRONTO, because it is a viable, cheap source of rotational bench players. The Spurs use the euroleague like their own D-League farm team, and they have one of the deepest, best benches in the league for years now. They can rest their aging guys like Duncan and Ginobili because of it.

Tomic will be a good one if you can get him from Barcelona.

Forget Bourousis and Andersen.

Why dont Nba teams see these players? They are all better than Pittman, Joel or other long but not long enough to play center humans

Take Semih Erden. Omer asik with less defense and much offense. BOS and CAVS sucks cuz they bench him

Don’t get me wrong, but as a basketball fan from Europe I can tell you that it wouldn’t be so easy for something like that to happen.

Aron Baynes played for Union Olimpija from Ljubljana. Yes, they played in the Euroleague this year, but this is a team with low budget that can’t be put in the same sentence with the teams of Ante Tomić, Ioannis Bourousis and David Andersen.

For example, Tomic. Barcelona would never let him go in the middle of the season. This is not some NBDL franchise (Olimpija let Baines go because they have difficulties with paying their players). Barcelona is one of the 40 best basketball franchises (I included here 30 from NBA) in the world.

And someone asked why NBA teams don’t get these players instead of players like Pittman and Joel.
It is because those players are more expensive. They earn more than NBA players with minimum salary contracts in NBA.

A lot of players that could be 9th or 10th players on an NBA roster (or even better) now play in Europe because that way they earn more money.

And just to mention it at the end. I am a Bulls’ fan, but I assure you that my goal wasn’t to troll or tell you that you won’t be able to find a serviceable big man this season. I just wanted to say that this idea with players from Europe isn’t as simple as it looks like.

^What CroBullsFan said. It's the Euroleague contenders, not bottom-of-the-pack teams like Olympia and Cedevita who let Baynes and Gelabale go away for financial reasons. In the summer, if a top-level Euroleague Big is a free agent and is wiing to accept lesser role and much lesser money in an goof NBA team like Heat, he may come.

also gonna say, though baynes could be a god fit here, he really isn't all that great, as someone who has watched a decent amount of him, all he really can do on offense is catch lobs and finish strong inside. he is very raw defensively, but does take up space. he can also get rebounds due to pure hustle and athletic ability.
so really, he would be a great fit for us here, but for the spurs and most other teams, baynes will not be a great player.
