Haha I'm so excited to see this guy play for Miami. I've learnt not to get my hopes up for older player, ala Bibby (who at the time I thought was going to be god on our team), but Birdman is actually the perfect fit here, and Miami can always do with more hustle players to balance out for Bosh, Wade and Chalmers not doing it.
Think about it, what's Bulls biggest advantage over us? Hustling and offensive rebounds, Birdman is going to play 10-15 minutes (Hopefully 20 if he proves good enough), of high energy, great rebounding, great defensive basketball. I mean that's all we can ask from our centers, along with some catching and finishing around the rim and you've got the perfect Miami Heat basketball center.
Even if the dude is a scrub, he's the type of player that really gets the fans involved and up and about. I'm really excited for Birdman.

For all we know he won't play for a while. last I read he said he was 75% in game shape. I don't think Spo will rush to play him and he could be quietly let go after 10 days

. i hope I'm wrong.

Well i agree to a degree, but dont get overly excited yet.
I do think prime Birdman would have been almost the perfect Center for us with his husstle, energy, shotblocking, rebounding and even scoring easy buckets.
The question now is - exactly how much does he have left in the tank. if he can even be just 85% of what he used to be - i believe he'll be a big help to us.

If they were just planning on seeing how he was like after his conditioning then they wouldn't have signed him to a 10 day contract. There would be no point you could work him out without a contract. The only reason we would of signed him to a contract is to actually play him, either that or he told us other teams were looking at him, so sign him now or he'll take other opportunities.

With that logic Curry wouldn't have been playing last year too. I really hope he plays well though, we need a center.

I think it will be a few weeks at least of getting into game shape. Might not see any meaningful minutes for a bit.

it took turiaf some time to play after we signed him.
It would be unlike the Heat to play him from day one, absent a blowout.

I hope so. He's on a 10-day contract, so it'll be interesting if he gets PT or not before the contract's over.

Last year Turiaf was waived by Denver on March 18th, signed with the Heat on the 21st, and played 11 min off the bench in his first game on the 23rd.

We'll probably get to see him play only when there's a blowout. I doubt he's worse than Joel when it comes to rebounding and losing the ball.

I really, genuinely am.
I watched Birdman a lot back in Denver, and the dude brings everything we desperately need from the center position (except maybe post defense, which isn't really a strong point of his).
The ONLY question is whether he's in game enough shape and not washed up.

I hope he can do what Zo did (to a lesser level)
Come in and just go balls out for short bursts grabbing rebounds and blocking shots without having to worry about fouls.

I'm excited, but keeping it measured. I'm not expecting a huge amount from him in the first month or so. If he's back to 85-90% Birdman by playoffs then it's an awesome signing!
Resign next year for 2 more years, then pull-off the Oden Reclamation Project & roll out the defensive C by committee of Anderson/Oden/Anthony! End dream.

You've put my inner-most pipe-dreams into words.

For Heat, the Bird very much becoming the wordBy Ira Winderman | South Florida Sun Sentinel
1:23 p.m. EST, February 5, 2013
MIAMI— Ask Chris Andersen what percentage he's at in his 16-day return to the NBA after nine months off the court and he replies, "Uh, I'd say six feathers."
And out of how many would that be? "Eleven."
So no, as the 6-foot-10 center with the colorful body art and even more colorful personality puts it, he's hardly at full plume, instead something closer to about 50 percent.
"That's right," he said.
Yet what the Miami Heat have found in these past two weeks is that a Birdman lacking full pluck is still an asset to a team that at times finds itself playing amid energy shortages.
"We love Bird out there," forward LeBron James said, as the Heat looked ahead to Wednesday's visit by the Houston Rockets, the second game on a five-game homestand at AmericanAirlines Arena. "Everything that he does, he does it with aggression, he does it with a pace and with a motor.
"He doesn't leave anything in the tank when he's out on the on the floor and we love that about him."...
