Should we hope that Philadelphia loses?

With the draft being weak this year, we probably want the 76ers to lose, so we don't have to pay a bad player. I can also see the 76ers playing bad next year for Wiggins if Bynum leaves.

The pick is lottery protected, so we want them to win and reach the playoffs to even receive the pick.

We will probably trade it whatever.

DWADEno3 I think the poster knows that...but I think he means the draft this year is weak so they lose this year and win next year to get In the playoffs where the draft is deeper...not sure but I think that's What he meant

1. This year's draft is just fine. it might not have promising franchise players at the top, but that's irrelevant to us. this draft is decently deep with nice prospects in the 14-26 range, which is what we need.
2. there's no guarantee the Sixers will make the playoffs next year. and we could use another young rotation guy, the sonner the better.

I forgot we can still get it next year if they fail to reach the playoffs this season. In that case, HeatGuyInChicago may be right.

I doubt that Philly will make it this year... Next year, with healthy Bynum they're gonna make it though.

I think they just gave too much for him not to re-sing him in the summer. And thay can give him that extra year of contract, i think it will appeal to Bynum.

The thing I never liked about this deal: Philly's pick is lottery-protected for the first three years (totally common) but then if they fail to make the playoffs entirely in those three years, we never get a first round pick from them. We only get their second round picks in Years 4 and 5, when in most deals it becomes an unprotected first rounder.
So there's a chance we miss out on their first round pick entirely, which is why we should root for them to make the playoffs in any given year of the next three.

I would rather get a pick of about 15-17 this year, than risk getting nothing but 2 2nd rounders which will equate to zilch.
As well the sooner we start developing a decent center, the sooner they'll be able to play and take over as our 3rd option once Wade is gone (Makes me cry to think about him retiring).

Knowing Pat yeah.

Well if Philly appeared more likely to make the playoffs this year, the pick would have more value around the trade deadline.
So we still need to root for Philly if Pat wants to use the pick as an asset. Right now it has little value.

No. We want that pick to be this year. Either so we can get someone into our system now, or have more trade value now.

^ i was so pissed when we didnt show up for the Bucks game...i think they are the only team the Sixers have a chance to jump in the standings, and it's not a good chance.

I am not really taking a position on this. I can see a school of thought where they wouldn't mind not drafting someone this year because you are probably going to get an average to below average player. Perhaps this helps with the Luxury Tax. Although Mickey Arison has said he will pay the luxury cap. Andy Elisberg has probably been assigned with how to make it not so punitive. I can see that they will amnesty Mike Miller in 2014-2015 when they will be subject to the Luxury Repeater Tax if he opts in. Mike Miller seems to be a high character guy. He may not opt in because he feels that he is not performing up to his contract. The same with UD. I also find it amazing how many ex-players are on the the payroll, LOL.
I don't think the Heat will be so concerned about drafting someone until they figure out the 2014-2015 cap situation. Sorry to disappoint draft posters out there, but we may be opting to drafting in the 2nd round for a while until LeBron leaves town.

With Rondo out for the rest of the season Philly has a much better chance of closing that gap.
I don't see us being big players in the draft either, but there's more value for a trade now if it looks like it could be a 2013 pick. It can used with Miller to lower cap figures, or as part of a bigger trade to get a legit big.

Nobosy is taking on Miller's 19Mil$ contract for a mid first round pick that might not even happen if Philly doesn't get the 8 seed. Miller is getting amnestied after this season, nobody wants our trash.
It's hard decsion to make now if we should keep the pick and draft a big (hoping Philly makes the playoffs) or just try to trade it for the best bigman we can land.
