What happened to this franchise

Post#1 » by 420 » Sat Feb 2, 2013 2:33 am

It seems that it's acceptable for the Miami Heat to:

-Be the worst rebounding team in the NBA
-Give up over 10 O-Rebs and not raise any eyebrows.
-Play small ball lineups nearly all game long despite the other team exploiting it by running the same plays over and over.

The only thing that makes this a Pat Riley team is the old, washed up vets who we signed hoping they would re-live their glory years.

Small ball has changed the culture of our franchise.

Agreed. The hard hat mentality seems to have been replaced with raining 3s and running fast breaks for sportscenter highlights.

The worst part is that I'm getting accustomed to it. We get shellacked so often, it's barely even a shock. When we lose, we generally lose BIG.

Spo would look like a genius if he saved the small ball lineup for certain teams in the playoffs.

Uhm.... Pat is still the same guy. You guys are forgetting, he formulated this team. We wanted Ray, no? Wanted a big 3, with the best player in basketball in his prime, no?

I'm no Spo supporter, but he doesn't have much to work with. Now yeah, he played UD too long... I know UD had that fairytale game against the Pacers last year but come on. He then took him out for Birdman. Birdman helped a little actually, but it wasn't enough.

Bosh.. same guy getting paid as LeBron and Wade, was pretty bad tonight. It's like we can't win with him, and we can't win without him. He was in foul trouble tonight too. When he's bad, HE IS BAAAAADDDD.

Indy had a game plan for us, we didn't for them I don't think. Yeah yeah "HIGH ENERGY, SECURE THE BOARDS (LOL), PLAY DEFENSE, TRUST EACH OTHER". LeBron looked openly frustrated everytime Indy got a shot.

Crap happens. Only when anyone should be worried is when we actually are knocked out of the playoffs (especially if it's before the Finals).

It's the same old story.

Same ole... losing against our rivals in the regular season, getting punked by them, getting owned. Which team came out of the East the last two years anyway, despite all of this?

1) Haslem got old and became worthless... fast
2) Mario "top ten PG" Chalmers is now Mario "top ten worthless PG" Chalmers
3) Chris Bosh, a natural finesse PF, is expected to play center sucessfully throughout the regular season
4) Team defense as a whole has regressed tremendously as a result of small ball, personel, and lack of effort
5) Spo continues to be extremely mediocre with his in-game adjustments
6) Teams are figuring us out and making proper game plans while we refuse to adjust to other teams for whatever reason

Does that answer your question?

Heat not adjusting after 3 years is bad.

Only thing they pretty much do nowadays is get washed up vets and shooters...and call it improvement.

He doesn't have much to work with in terms of inside the paint.

Obviously he has the best player in basketball, Wade, Bosh, etc. But we have the worse Center rotation in the NBA. What can you do about it? Even our back up PF's are iffy. It seems Haslem has a good game every blue moon... Lewis... no comment...

Lewis could work if you played Lebron at center and force him to pull a Kobe and be the Heat's Dwight Howard?

He has enough, he has Bosh, Joel and now birdman. He has Varnado and Pittman too. Haslem was being abused by west, battier was being abused by west. By the time he caught himself the lead was too big and then they started hitting 3s.

This pacers team is beatable, we have enough to beat them. Bad lineups. No adjustments

Varnado and Pittman should not even be mentioned. They will never play. The Pitt Experiment to me has failed.

Bosh at Center could be killing us defensively. Then when he tries to post up a big, it just looks so bad. He needs to play his natural position, the PF.

But then, we have UD who is even shorter at the Center position. Haslem once could handle such situations... but not these days. Joel I don't mind at times to get burn, especially against Indiana. He did well against Indy in the playoffs last year, I remember.

Besides LBJ and Wade in god mode, when our role players step up as well, even if it's one of them, we most of the time win. That didn't happen tonight. No one stepped up, no one did anything. LeBron tried to barrel in. Birdman had a good game, not so much "stepped up" in terms of making a giant impact as in being unstoppable, Indy just forgot about him.

There are many factors we have as a team to win. NONE of them occurred tonight. NONE.

We have had some bad losses this season, there is no doubt, and to our rivals. But what does beating them in the regular season mean, as opposed to the playoffs? That's all I'm saying. Be worried when the Heat aren't the ones raising the Larry O'Brien trophy in June.

After the first 10 day contract Chris Johnson of the twolves had I questioned why the heat didn't pick the guy up. Instead they resigned Varnado. We need height. They didn't even take a look at the kid, don't know how they scout exactly

Other than hitting the home run with DWade and getting lucky with Haslem, the Heat haven't been good at drafting or evaluating young players. Remember how we had Anthony Morrow only to cut him?
