Heat has agreed to send forward-center Dexter Pittman and a second round pick to the Grizzlies for a trade exception, sources tell Y! Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired Dexter Pittman and a second round pick from the Miami Heat.

The Grizzlies have been thin at center following their trade of Hamed Haddadi to the Raptors.

For the Heat, the trade frees up a roster spot.

What did the Heat get back? Cash?
Freeing up a roster spot for a buyout or maybe Oden??

Not sure how valuable if any this exception will be.

Saves Micky a lil luxury tax money. The sole purpose of Pitt being exiled to the d-league was so other teams could scout him.

Just a question (I am kinda new at all this background NBA news). So Heat gave away Pitman + a second round pick to the grizzlies for free? Or am I missing something. I know we now have an open roster spot, doesn't that mean we can get something?

Also don't we need 15 players to move on in the season?

Someone please shed some light. Sorry if my questions are "(Please Use More Appropriate Word)".

The exception is basically like a "gift card" We get a certain amount of money that can be used towards or for a trade.

Hmm, wonder who we're thinking about signing? Only a center shaking loose would really make sense, but any center that gets bought out likely won't be better than the ones we have. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It opened a roster spot for Riley to see who gets bought out and maybe make a move. Also lowers the amount of luxury tax the team will pay. Would rather not see another pick traded

pretty much. we got a trade exception(which is pretty worthless at less than a mil, but it opened up a roster spot for us to sign someone who is bought out and it saves micky about 1.6mil.

yeah, I'm tending to agree with this. Since we are over the cap anyway, I don't see this deal opening up any cap space to sign anyone and I think Pitt+pick would have been a better package to dangle to get a player if indeed we are targeting someone in a trade.

A center like Mosgov or Oden. Maybe a PG? Or another guard in general
