As usual an underrated signing. Don't know what 28 other teams were thinking by passing on this guy.

The funny thing is, we haven't even really exploited the best part about having him on our roster for the most part yet, mostly using him as added depth behind Bosh and Haslem to this point.

But playing him next to Bosh gives us, for the first time in the Big 3 era, 2 bigs that are competent both offensively and defensively on the court at the same time. Not that we should pigeon hole ourselves to a traditional lineup now, but its nice to know we have that option.

Bosh
Andersen

You can sub Allen for Chalmers if you want more offense, or Battier for Chalmers if you want more defense.

Always saw this as a versatility signing.

Against teams that play with size (the Pacers/Lakers/Clippers) Birdman's more useful.
Against finesse/shooting teams (OKC/Golden State) Allen/Battier/Chalmers should close out.

I like the addition of Anderson for his toughness factor - I think he's that one guy that will get dirty and even moreso than Haslem will and can come PO time - especially against a team like Boston or Indy when it needs to get dirty.

We haven't played particularly well with Anderson on the court so I don't think there is a direct causation there. Its probably more like he's allowed better matchups for other guys. Or it could just be most of our team is on a tear shooting, independent of Anderson.

I too want to see some more Bosh-Anderson when, based on matchups, it would be to our benefit.

we kind of all knew what we needed, and then we got it to some degree and its exactly what we thought. Now imagine if he were younger, better, whatever. All this team needs is a center the other team has to account for on defense, rebounds and blocks shots.

His impact has definitely been the reason for some of our wins, though not all. Like last night it wasnt the reason, but many of them just his presence has been a big deal

Yeah on offense a big past of Bosh/Birdman working vs Indy was Bosh drilling long 2's. now we know Bosh is an elite midrange shooter, so it's not like it an awful shot, and Anderson finished some nice PnRs at the rim, but it was clearly offensively lower efficiency shots than Wade/James at the rim or Battier in the corner. That's gotta be a matchup based lineup IMO

He's been great and the team's playing great. Congrats to the Heat and Birdman.

Can someone research the defensive efficiency for lineups involving Bosh/Anderson at the 4/5? Seems like if you have those 2, and Lebron/Wade, you can rotate between Chalmers/Cole/Battier/Allen/(even Miller if need be) depending on who's got it going on that night.

Wasn't last night like the 3rd time it ever happened, Spo is very much in love the small-ball offense.

I loved the signing for the only one reason necessary. It gives us the ability to go to a bigger lineup when it's really necessary. At this point, it's up to Spo to decide when it is or isn't needed depending on the match ups. At least now, as opposed to previous years, we aren't the same small team that only has the option to go small. The versatilty Miami has now is a real asset for the playoffs. I just hope we use it to the fullest....

The only other loss was in Boston, in OT, by 2. Which seemed a lot worse when everyone thought Boston would crumble without Rondo, but maybe isn't so bad now that we see they've been better without him.

Which is what I've been asking for the whole time lol. We have more versatility than any team, probably ever, we should take advantage of that.

Battier getting backed in by West? Go bigger at PF. Perkins can't rebound or score inside? Let him cover Battier outside. Lebron can lock down a pg who we can't stay in front of? Put him on him. Garnett killing us as the roll man on a pnr with a pg who can't shoot? Going bigger and don't blitz as hard.

Lets use all of our advantages.

I think that's more coincidental than causal.

A lot of other players have improved their play since then and some of it is just jumpshot fluctuations. Also having a home heavy schedule (we've been much better at home) probably helped.

Extending it beyond Spo to all coaches, I usually find coaching motivation moves to be overrated in terms of impact.

Very true, shouldve known theyd rally to keep hopes alive. I just dont think Anderson is the key to this run, a lot of it has to do with LeBron playing like a machine and Wade turning back into the Wade of old, Allen catching fire, and Battier shooting lights out. Dont get me wrong Birdman is helping but I think its a coincidence, if he keeps up the work and continues to improve it can be a nice addition to the Haslem/Joel rotation.
