Rio's been playing great lately

Last ten games:
28.2 mpg
47.9 FG%
42.9 3FG%
87.5 FT%
3.5 APG
1.84 AST/TO
1.2 Steals
11 PPG

But most importantly he has gotten up for our big games recently. I know Wario rears his ugly head from time to time but I thought he deserved a new thread regardless lol.

I think Mario has been great generally, tbh. His assist % is 18.5, just slightly off what it was last year (19%), but his TOV% is at a career low: 17.1% (last year 20.7%). His TS% is great as usual, 57.5, right where he was at last year (57.8).

So he's shooting as well as ever, assisting as well as he has in the big 3 era, but his turnovers are at a career low. That, to me, is exactly what you would've asked from him at the start of the season.

Exactly. My point was even though he still has boneheaded moments, he's cut down on them drastically. He's done everything the team has asked of him and is excelling in his role.

I remember back when we drafted him, we already knew his ceiling would be filling the Derek Fisher role on a championship team. I think we can safely say he's hit that ceiling, and I'm happy for him. He still makes a boneheaded play now and then, but he is absolutely fearless in big games and you need that out of your role players sometimes.

That said, he's a good kind of fearless... he's not going to pull a J.R. Smith and shoot you out of a game. But he'll never pass up an open 3 or a lane to drive to the basket, even in a tight game on the road with a hostile crowd and most role players wanting nothing to do with the ball, passing it back to their superstar to force them to take a contested shot even if they had a better opportunity.

He won't always make the right play, but he'll never be afraid to make a play.

The Heat organization will never get praise for drafting him

remember Heatles are "awful" at drafting

Good thing about Mario is that he's not athletic, he has that PP type body.

Paul Pierce?

Yup. got me eating crow lately.

After a solid start to the season he just dropped off a cliff for a long strech, played just awful, couldn't do anything on offense or defence. maybe that finger thing he had made it worse.
Anyway, he totally turned it around lately. started hitting the open shots, passing better then he ever has and Wario type mistakes are down. Also he stoped trying to do too much, which is good because he can't really do alot of things but we just need him to do his job in the best way - hit open outside shots, defend reasonably well and make good passes. Really hoping he carry this positive momentum to the post season, if he can it will be huge for us.

Yup, he was really sucking at the beginning of the year, not sure if it was due to injury or what but he couldn't hit a shot and his D was awful. He's really turned it around lately though.

The only thing left for him is to learn how to throw a lob.

His decision making has improved, which is a welcome sign given how awful it used be. He understands his role and does his job well within that role, which is all you can ask for. His terrible decision making cost him his starting spot to Arroyo in 10/11, so I'm glad he realized it and seems to have worked hard on it. With that being said, he has a tendency of trying to be "too cool" at times, especially against lottery teams, and a guy like him simply can't afford it the way a guy like LeBron can.

IIRC, he started the season really well, with a couple double-digit assists games, and looked to have evolved into a better PG. Then he hit a major slump, and looked like he might have been playing injured, because he couldn't stay in front of anyone. He was getting crucified on here with Haslem, but you can't give up on guys who've proven they have championship mettle. Rio ain't gonna disappear like a Mo Williams. He's a bonehead a lot of times, but you take the good with the bad. PEACE.

Yep, at the beginning of the season he was making those awesome bounce pocket passes that had everyone going wtf :o

Then he just dropped off a cliff and everyone wanted cole. Then they were both sucking and fans were imploding, and now he's back to normal Mario, without some of the awesome PG stuff he was doing in the beginning but still filling his role the way we originally wanted.

I remember Heat passed up DeAndre for him. I was actually quite surprised since Heat needed a center at
the time and knowing Riley's obsession with centers I thought it'd be an obvious choice.

I've been a big fan of this guy since we drafted him. He catches so much flak on this board (some of it has merit) so I love it when the guy makes huge plays to redeem himself right after everyone rags on him.

Chalmers is a big game player.
That's a requirement on this team
