Will you use mini-MLE on Birdman?

Birdman has been amazing since he joined the heat. But when the off-season arrive, what kind of contract will you like to give to Birdman?

Vet Minimum is not enough to sign Birdman, even I hope so. Will you use the mini-MLE on Birdman, or do you want use it to sign other FAs?

For me, I am willing to give it to Birdman.

vet minimum may be enough still because denver still owes him 4 million next season. but ya, i think we might use the mini mle on him.

He'll stay for the Vet min.

This was clarified in the Birdman thread (thanks Wade2k6.)

Vet min is definitely enough because Denver covers the difference up to 5 million, i.e. the salary he makes next year won't be in addition to the Denver money, but it'll just come out of what Denver owes him. So he's making 5 million next year no matter what contract he signs (unless someone signs him for more than 5, but that won't happen.)

So he has zero financial incentive to seek a larger contract than the vet min. If he likes it here, which it certainly seems he does, he'll stay.

Thanks for the clarification. If he likes it here, he stays here. Plus, no other team is dumb enough to give him over 5 mill...

I think he'll just settle for the vet min and allow them to use that on someone else

This is cool, wasn't aware of that.

I was a bit wary of using the mini MLE on him when that's our only way to really acquire players right now, but he's a steal for the vet min.

Real question is, who can we use the mini-MLE on? Considering I think its a given that Birdman will play for the vet min next season.

Wow, didn't know that!

What a perfect situation for us. Makes the pickup that much greater!

These guys want the most guaranteed money they can get. I dont think its a given we get birdman for the vet min.

And to the poster that said bird has zero financial incentive to seek a larger contract, denver isnt going to pay him 5mil for the next 3 years. i think its just next season. if he can get 9mil guaranteed over 3 years, why wouldnt he?

If a team is going to pay camby the mini mle, why wouldnt they pay birdman it?

Do we get anything the year after next like the mle?

Also, mad props to Anderson for coming back to the league when he could have sat at home all year and collected cash.

Prefer to wait and see, not because I am not impressed with bird man, but because there are other players that we thought the same way about, only to end up elsewhere

A ring kinda does something to some guys ask Ronny

Also, the obvious choices are Dalembert and Oden.

if we have to use mle to keep him I thinks its worth every penny. We are finally getting some production at that spot and id like to keep it that way.

Anyone who thinks he isn't worth the mini-MLE would be delusional. He is a tremendous defender and a solid rebounder(rebounding a bit less than usual this season though). Fills his role very nicely with no complaints.

However, I think you guys can keep him for the vet min.

We're in a lucky position with the money Denver still owes him. Similar situation with Rashard Lewis.

As someone else mentioned, the problem will be if someone offers him a multi-year deal at/above the mini-MLE, we won't be able to match after the first year, once the Nuggets' payouts stop. So we will see I guess.

If a team is willing to offer a guy who is going to be 35 multiple years at a higher price than he'd receive from Denver, I think it would be good to just wave goodbye.
