2001 Lakers (Kobe and Shaq) vs. MIA Heat

Post#1 » by lbjmiami » Sun Apr 21, 2013 7:40 pm

Who would win between these two teams? I remember Lakers went 15-1 that year in playoffs, but still I pick Heat. What about you??

it's really to tough to call. would have been an epic series probably go at least 6 games. I just remember shaq being a monster around that time.

Dude Shaq would absolutely dominate us. None of our centers would be able to control him down low, and if/when we would have to double/triple team him he'd kick it out for an open 3 or a Kobe drive.

The Shaq-Kobe Laker teams are some of the most over rated championship teams of all time. The league was WEAK then. All the other good players were stuck in small markets or had no help. Shaq and Kobe benefited by being together and being in LA. T-Mac was stuck in Orlando, Iverson in Philly with no one, Garnett was stuck in Minnesota, etc etc. Who did the Lakers ever really beat? A thug Portland team led by Rasheed. An old pacers team in the finals. A 1-man team in philly with only iverson. The nets....wow! We are way deeper than any team they ever had. Give me Heat in 5

Lakers would handily beat us mainly because of Peak Shaq. We literally have no one to guard him.

No one would stand a chance guarding Shaq. Though I'm equally interested in who Shaq would guard.

This is pretty much all that needs to be said. Our weakness is our front line, and that Lakers team greatest strength was basically having one of the most dominant centers of all time at the peak of his performance. I think that they're simply a bad matchup for us. It happens sometimes, it's not a big deal.

As great as LeBron is right now, there's no stopping a 7'1, 325 pound monster named Shaquille O'Neal playing in his absolute prime. For all the trouble we have with some of the bigger front lines in this league, Shaquille O'Neal would completely destroy the HEAT, and that's without even mentioning Horace Grant or Kobe Bryant. Who does LeBron guard? Either way, someone will erupt.

Shaq could easily explode for 50/20. That's no exaggeration. Chris Andersen? Udonis Haslem? Shaquille O'Neal, aged 37, dropped 45 points on Chris Bosh when he was playing at his bulkiest (250 lbs). No way.

Shaq completely eviscerated Dikembe Mutombo, who, at the time, was the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Horace Grant alone would frustrate Chris Bosh into a Boston Garden-like performance, and could actually check him on the perimeter.

If we are Miami, and the Kobe-Shaq Lakers are in the west during the same time period/season, don't you think we might have a few 7 footers on the team just in case me meet them in the finals? this is why it's always hard to compare different eras

Disagree.. maybe prime Horace Grant, but no way 15 year vet Grant keeps up with Bosh in his prime right now. Miami has no answer for prime Shaq, but the Lakers have no answer for prime Lebron. Miami's current bench/role players is better then the Laker's bench/role players. Miami has Lebron, Wade and Bosh... the Lakers have Shaq and Kobe. A young Kobe would have been easier for a player like Wade now to get under his skin. I'm talking 23 year old Kobe..

Shaq clogging up the middle would make it difficult for LeBron and Wade when driving, and you're not going with a small lineup against prime Shaq. Prime Shaq is the most dominant player ever, and we have no answer for him at the front court positions. Our team would give them some fits, but I think they would just overwhelm us down low and would end up winning a 7 game series.
