Seattle Expansion
There has been some talks about an expansion team to Seatle in 2014-2015. My question is, in the case of an expansion draft who would we protect and not protect? You can only protect 8 players from what I understand.
I'd think we protect:
Wade
Bosh
James
Battier
Chalmers
Allen
Cole
Birdman
but opinions are welcome.

I'm not sure how much you guys have been keeping up with the Kings franchise but there have been reported talks of Kings staying in Sac and Seattle getting an expansion team. Thus an expansion draft would occur. Hypothetical with probable chance to actually happen.

and if a expansion draft team wanted Joel, then I don't think anyone would care.

Re: Seattle Expansion
He's referring to the possibility of an expansion Seattle franchise next season, meaning there would need to be an expansion draft of some sort.
There are nine players left here, meaning I would consider bubble players to be Chris Andersen, Mike Miller, or Udonis Haslem. Considering how close everyone on this team is, it would be a tough decision.
- 11 Chris Andersen F-C 6-10 228 07/07/1978 Blinn Junior College (TX)/USA 10
31 Shane Battier F 6-8 225 09/09/1978 Duke/USA 11
1 Chris Bosh C-F 6-11 235 03/24/1984 Georgia Tech/USA 9
15 Mario Chalmers G 6-2 190 05/19/1986 Kansas/USA 4
30 Norris Cole G 6-2 175 10/13/1988 Cleveland State/USA 1
40 Udonis Haslem F 6-8 235 06/09/1980 Florida/USA 9
6 LeBron James F 6-8 250 12/30/1984 St. Vincent-St. Mary HS (OH)/USA 9
13 Mike Miller G 6-8 210 02/19/1980 Florida/USA 12
3 Dwyane Wade G 6-4 220 01/17/1982 Marquette/USA 9

Re: Seattle Expansion
Isn't Andersen a FA next year? What is there to protect? I think the Heat would go with the OP's list but switch Haslem in for Andersen. Thank god we won't have Pittman & his "potential" to worry about here

Re: Seattle Expansion
I think Miller and Udonis aren't very likely to be picked. I assume an expansion franchise would look for young talent, although they would probably not mind a couple of savvy cheap veterans to teach the youngsters how to be professional.
Before deciding who to protect, it would be wise to see what would be available from other teams. It might be a lot better than what the Heat can "offer".

Re: Seattle Expansion
Wouldn't we need to have two expansion teams to make this work, I mean one conference would have one more team than the other.

There likely won't be an expansion, its looking more like a relocation. More money in the owner's pocket.
Your emotions fuel the narratives that you create. You see what you want to see. You believe what you want to believe. You ascribe meaning when it is not there. You create significance when it is not present.

And that never worked in the past.

And make a mess out of the history of 2 teams, not just one.
The Bucks have a pretty rich history, they were champs, had Jabbar, Big O and some other good players.
Seattle wouldn't just want a team, they'd want the Sonics and their history. So what would you do with the Bucks history ? Leave it in Milwaukee, to wait for what ? Another team wanting to relocate there ? That'd be just dumb.
The best possible scenario would probably be convince MJ to sell the Bobcats to the Seattle group. I loved him as a player and would have liked to see him succeed as an owner, but it's probably time for him to sell or at least become a minority owner.

Actually, an expansion would bring them more money. A new team would be at least 300 million from the new owners. In a relocation, the money would just go to the former owner's pockets (assuming he sells instead of moving the team himself).

I wouldn't worry about protecting Millers 6 million dollar contract or any big contracts seeing as we need them off the books. I'm going to assume it's the offseason and our expirings have expired.

Expand to Seattle, Las Vegas, and move the Pelicans back to the Eastern Conference.
Problem solved. It adds up.

Expansion players: Mike Miller, James Jones, Joel Anthony & I would some how figure a way to include Joel Anthony again.

Re: Seattle Expansion
Move the Grizzlies east and let the west keep their crappy teams. Memphis does appear to me to be at least slightly farther east than New Orleans is. I don't care if they were originally in the east, they aren't now.
It'd give the south east division a little cred to have more than 1 competent team in it. I'm not sure Atl counts in that regard Their record isn't very good for a team in a weak division. They can move Wash out to compensate if necessary.
