1st Round Advanced Stats

For the stat geeks, here's a little breakdown from the series thus far...some things are obvious that you can understand from watching the games, but the advanced stats give a numerical value to player's performance. I'll explain how the advanced stats work...

HELP VALUE hv = rebounds + assists + steals + blocks - turnovers:
This measures the non-scoring contribution of players - For example, in Game #3 - Wade had a poor shooting performance, but his help value was the series high for any player. He had 9 rebounds, 11 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocks, and 6 turnovers. HV was 21 = (9+11+5+2)-(6).

PRODUCTIVITY VALUE: prod = (points + hv) / min:
This is an average of how much the player contributed per minute. So a value of 1.00 means that, on average, the player had a point, rebound, assist, steal, or block, for every minute he was in the game, without making a turnover. For example, in Game #2 - Birdman only played 12.4 minutes, but had 10 points, and had a HV of 7 (6 rebs, 1 blk). HV 1.37 = (10+7)/(12.4). Anything close to "1.00" is good, and anything above "1.00" is very good.

EFFICIENCY: eff = (points + assists + rebounds + steals + blocks + field_goals + free_throws) - (turnovers + attempted_fieldgoals + attempted_freethrows):
This is a rating of total contribution, including shooting accuracy. For example, in Game #1 - LeBron had a monster 35 efficiency rating with 27 points, 8 assists, 10 rebounds, 9/11 FG, 8/11 FT, and 5 turnovers. EFF 35 = (27+8+10+9+8)-(5+11+11).

PlusMinus or +/-:
This shows how well the team did compared to the opponent while he was in the game. It is calculated by comparing the score when the player entered the game to the score when the player left the game for each stint. For example, in Game #2 - the Heat was +26 while Ray Allen was on the floor, while they were -1 while Dwyane Wade was on the floor. It should be noted that this is more a team stat than an individual one, but it is interesting to look at.

It's not surprising that Wade had the best +- in game 1, it's astounding how poor Spo's feel of the game is sometimes. Basically every time Wade was getting some rhythm he'd get subbed out and Bulls would go on a run ( those who have the game recorded, watch it again and see).

It seems like the only hot player he'll leave in is LeBron, shouldn't be case. if Battier is hitting 4 3s in a row you don't sub him out you ride the hot hand.
