Chauncey Billups interested in joining Heat

http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/nba/mia ... eedID=3720“Of course, I would have interest in Miami, of course,’’ Billups told FOX Sports Florida after having received the NBA’s inaugural Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award prior to Sunday night’s Game 2 of the NBA Finals at AmericanAirlines Arena. The Heat went after Billups after he was released in December 2011 as part of the NBA’s amnesty provision. However, the Los Angeles Clippers won the bidding process, and he has played with them the past two seasons.
it remains to be seen if the Heat, who are pleased with young point guards Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole, might be willing to bring in a veteran at the position. But Billups said he’s been watching the Heat and believes he could be an asset.
“Absolutely, I could help them,’’ Billups said before the Heat faced San Antonio after having lost the Finals opener last Thursday
Do we even want him at this point? I wouldn't say his washed up but I would say Norris Cole is perfect off the bench for the Heat, and Chalmers has proven his worth despite making bone head plays pretty often. I feel like he could be alright as a 3rd string point guard you won't find much better. Add Samuel Dalembert to either start or come off the bench, and move Bosh to the 4, and add Chauncey Billups as insurance for injury and I'd say that's a good offseason.
Oh also, if we were able to sign him, at the end of games you could put two 90% free throw shooters on the floor together in Billups and Allen to close out games, that would be pretty good.

Isn't it funny how times change, two years ago when he was amnestied we were clamoring to sign him, now we feel like we don't even need him.

Yep Ray stepped up in the post-season overall to be honest, good 3's, did what was asked of him to do.
Would love to have him back for another year and then retire.

If James Jones retires, I wouldn't mind bringing him in. I see Riley trying to trading MM in the off-season & using amnesty on Joel Anthony to keep the salaries down. Chancey could be a great guy for Mario/Cole to learn from, the same way LeBron has learned from Ray about shooting.

The team should try and improve depth at the 4/5 spot. Cole and Chalmers are good enough, at his age Billups is basically going to be like J Kidd was this year. Spend the money on keeping Birdman, and see if you can find a ring chaser at the 4/5. Maybe a Chris Kaman.

We really don't need him. Already won the championship. lol
If we didn't win last year then maybe we would feel different about adding him.

No. He's not that kind of veteran - Chauncey's a leader but he can also be disruptive if he doesn't get his way. He will want regular minutes and, most of all, closing minutes. You won't be able to do with Chauncey what Spo is doing right now to Battier without drama.
