Mike Miller picks Memphis

Post#1 » by truthiness » Thu Jul 25, 2013 10:01 am

As (I) expected, Mike Miller goes to Memphis.

This might be huge for Memphis, who desperately needed some shooting to open the floor for ZBo and Gasol. Prince was useless vs the Spurs, and Hollins kept playing him, instead of going smaller in the backcourt.

Suddenly, from just standing on their asses while the rest of the West (except OKC) improved, Memphis just addressed their biggest need. They should be even better next season. I'd say tied for 2nd with the Clippers in the West, behind the Spurs.

So, good luck Mike Miller.

Good for Mike, but Memphis needs another shooter/defender to be considered one of the elite in the West.

Such a relief it wasn't okc, clippers, nets, etc.

Wish mike the best, and hope there's a reunion with him later on down the road whether it may be a coaching position, scouting position or even if he's willing to play for the min after his Memphis tenure.

They made the WCF last season, so I don't know how much more elite they could be in the West. Sure, Pops exposed their lack of shooting (and spanked Hollins), but it's not like they had any way of counteracting that.

I agree that they could use another shooter (or 2), especially since in the modern NBA 3p shooting has become (or rather, has been recognized as being) extremely important for a team's success. But they already were elite, and Miller will fill their biggest need. That should make them that much more dangerous.

I actually thought they should have gone for Korver (and IIRC they did, but just couldn't offer as much money as the Hawks), but Miller is not such a bad back-up plan.

Given that Riley was apparently trying to trade Miller, I suspect the Grizzlies have anticipated the amnesty and then picking him up cheaply. In which case, they played it really smart. Didn't overpay in free agency, and still got the shooter they needed (and probably wanted).

I wonder how much of this (if true) is Hollinger's hand.
It would be VERY interesting if 2 stat geeks (Morey and Hollinger) put together contenders in Houston and Memphis. The NBA might move away from hiring former players who are totally unqualified for the job of GM (cough*Isiah*cough) and pick people used to analysis and thinking things through. I imagine that NBA GM jobs would suddenly become way more attainable for people who never played a minute of professional ball in their lives.

okc is still better
they were in every game til they ran out of firepower down the stretch

best point differential in the NBA last year
5.1 points better than Memphis

the re-addition of westbrook to okc > miller to memphis

you can have all the analytics in the world, but if OKC doesnt panic and trade harden to you, or the lakers don't collapse and manage to hang on to the superstars they always keep, you're still nothing

Good for Mike since he has a home in Memphis. IMO, the Grizz only need a scorer to compliment their defensive team. They remind me to the 2010-2011 Chicago Bulls.

Good for Mike. Memphis is no threat to us. I glad he's not playing for an East team where he would come back to torch us.

Glad he went to Memphis. He stays out of the East,

he doesn't go to the Thunder(a potential finals opponent this year),and he's going to an organization where he's played for already, knows the culture, and they need his services so he will be utilized.

Good choice for him, I just didn't want him to go to a team in the east coast.

I could see us facing Memphis next year. They have as much shot as anyone else in the west.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

I think people are overrating the Thunder.
I don't see them making the finals. They are no longer top 3 in the West (Spurs, Grizzlies, Clippers), and might even fall behind the Rockets, depending on what the Rockets will do with Asik and in terms of bringing some more help.

For some reason that wouldn't bother me as much as if he was on the Nets, Knicks, Bulls, or Pacers bombing away against us in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

If it's the finals, then let the chips fall where they may.

I hope Mike gets a nice ovation when Memphis comes to town next year.

We only face him IF we make the finals.

Let's cross the bridges in front of us first before worrying about our potential destination.

Yea your right as the West get's better Grizzlies and Clippers are gaining ground, but at the same time I look at the Spurs, and if Russell didn't get hurt I really believe he would have helped KD get past Memphis, and most likely would have beaten the Spurs like they did the year before coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win the series.

Clippers surprised me big time I had them in the West Finals, but Deandre, and Blake's improvement as a frontcourt tandem will determine how far they advance.

Lastly Grizzlies are the x-factor in my opinion they needed some more offense now it looks like they got some,so will see.
