The Miami Heat have signed Larry Drew II, the team announced Monday.

Drew, so of Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Drew, will sign a non-guaranteed deal according to the Miami Herald. He joins other non-guaranteed players Jarvis Varnado, Eric Griffin, Justin Hamilton and Michael Beasley in training camp.

Drew becomes the team’s third point guard behind Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole. The Heat explored many options at point guard, including Sebastian Telfair and others, before ultimately deciding to give young Drew a shot, at least in camp.

It is a long-shot that Drew makes the team. Assuming Beasley makes the squad, the Heat have 14 of 15 roster spots filled, meaning the final spot is up for grabs between Varnado, Griffin, Hamilton and Drew.

Drew was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and was selected to the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team. He led the conference in total assists, assists per game and assist-per-turnover average (2.98).

In his three seasons at UNC, he finished with 378 assists, the 17th-most in school history. He earned the Tar Heel’s Defensive Player of the Game award four times during his junior season and appeared in 38 games as a freshman during the school’s 2009 championship season.

Interesting. Naturally, I'm curious as to how he'll perform in training camp and during the preseason, so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do. With that said, because it's this late in the offseason and no other team has targeted him, I won't sit and pretend like he's the second coming of Rafer Alston.

**** Larry Drew. He sucks, and he left my Tar Heels like a little bitch. No chance he makes the team. He lost his starting job to Kendall Marshall at UNC, don't see what he has to offer us.

Camp body. Nothing more, nothing less. I wish we'd gotten Ian Clark. I'm sure Cole disagrees with that though. LOL!

From what I see he loves to rifle passes in there that are hard to telegraph cause he uses very little body motion..
