If he signs a deal like Kobe wouldn't that make it really hard to keep the big 3 together?

What did D-Wade say about Windhorst when he tried to make stuff up about his relationship with LeBron? "Shows how much he knows". There's way too much interpretation going on right now regarding the Big Three. You'll have to play this whole season first to see where we stand and go from there. For Wade personally, it's a lot about how healthy he stays to determine his value. His skills are top-notch, that's known, but he needs to prove his body can hold up.

I'm confident the Big Three will be willing to take pay cuts if the Heat show them it'd be a good basketball decision for them. You can't ask them to leave money on the table just for the sake of letting the organization save some (and frankly, I don't see us doing that). But if we show that pay cuts could help us bolster our roster, I'm very confident they'll take them.

I'm not gonna worry about that right now though. We have a whole season to play and a title to defend. The only ones who have to start working on a plan regarding the offseason are Riley, Elisburg and their staff but seeing how they've planned ahead in years before, I know there's something in the works for different kinds of scenarios.

There's some topic that was here earlier in the season and Wade said how there were a few guys "who got paid", basically hinting that pay cuts are a must in the future. Wade knows to keep the Big 3 together, they will have to continue with the pay cuts.

I understand giving Wade a reward if you will, for his tenure here as a Heat player and what he has done for the franchise. But Kobe got that deal because of what he's worth. Wade is worth a lot, but not the kind of money Kobe brings in for the Lakers. Right now LeBron is the one who brings in more money because his name is on a Heat jersey.

Too early to worry about this but I don't think he'll take some deal like that. If anything, the Lakers offered that deal to Kobe and he didn't negotiate. I don't think Arison or whomever will give Wade a deal like that.

If we 3peat, I can't see Wade demanding so much money that basically we won't have enough to build a good roster to stay relevant for a few more years. Wade's smarter than that.

A Windhorst article that makes it seem like Wade will ask for a ton of money?

You know what that means...

We get Wade back....discounted!

It's way to soon to get too deep into this discussion so just 2 reminders :

1) We can keep the core of LBJ, Wade, Bosh, Rio, Cole, Allen, Birdman, Battier if we want too, without anyone having to leave any money on the table, and no one can stop us from doing so. It will cost Micky some money, but I trust that if it comes do that, he won't break this core for cash reasons. The ball is in our hands.

2) The real reason we want the big 3 to take pay cuts is so A)we can give Beasley and Oden bigger contracts next year (and maybe add one more non-star rotation player) and also B)to save Micky some of luxury tax penalties. But we're not even sure if we'll have to give them bigger contracts, or how big. We'll have the MLE or MiniMLE, so we might be able to keep them for that. Beas IMO is likely to stay for cheap (feels at home, still getting paid by Phoenix), Oden is the wild card..who knows what the future holds for him.

Im pretty confident that we'll keep all the core guys, the only one I can see maybe leaving is Oden, and that's only if he has a monster playoffs against Hibbert and Lopez and as a result getting very big offers from other teams. Not a very likely scenario IMO. If he just plays solid for limited minutes, we could probably keep him too.

I'm pretty sure they're all going to take discounts so we can sign Carmelo and give him the retribution he sorely needs. Sorry guys, James Ennis will have to wait a few more years;))

Allen, Battier, and Birdman are extremely old. After this season, you can't pencil them in for any guaranteed production and they might retire at anytime. Of course you know this, but it's easy to forget sometimes how important it is to be working younger or mid-aged players into the rotation.

Well unlike the Knicks, We have both our draft picks for the 2014 draft + a promising prospect from last year's draft playing great in Australia + Dleague stud Center working with our coaches there + reincarnated Beasley . So we should actually be YOUNGER next year.

Means nothing. Worst case scenario is he doesn't opt out and gets paid 20mil next season. We are not going to sign him to a crazy high long term deal. He is due 40mil over the next 2 seasons. I would be comfortable giving him a 4yr deal worth 60-70mil deal. With an opt out after year 3 and then we can do something like 3/30 when he is 35.

Ray Allen could play and produce until he's 40 if he wants to

You are probably right. But you can never be sure what will happen to a player that old.

Nash went from all-star calibre and ridiculous numbers to looking not very good and always injured in a matter of a few months and a switch of address. Kidd went from invaluable missing ingredient to a player who literally could not compete at the NBA level anymore within the same season.

Plus, there is always the retirement factor looming...

I love Wade, but if he pulls a Kobe contract, our championship run is over. Him and Bosh need to get paid 12mil a year. Micky isn't very fond of the repeater tax offender.

I'd love Melo here, but I'm not sure where we'd find room for him if Oden and Beasley are earning their playing time

People who think ANY of the big three needs-to/will take $12 mil per season is delusional. And they shouldn't have to either. IMO, Mickey Arison has the bigger decision on how much to pay. The big three each WILL get their $20 mil per season average on a 3-4 year extension, end of story. Arison needs to pony up this time if he wants to maintain success.

What we do need to realize is that our roster might not be as deep as it was last season and/or this season. We will have to settle for veterans at the end of their careers, young players making little money and/or rookies. At the end of the day, I think Arison will pay and maintain some flexibility with his roster. When we cut MIke Miller for tax purposes THIS season it was - i believe - to save and use that money next season for tax payments. It was a good move since we had the depth on our roster. Now Mickey has to do his part.

Just as much as the big three deserves to make their money, so does Mickey. We don't know the numbers, how much Mickey actually profits from the team, but from my point of view, for him to remove someone who has been crucial to our success the past 3 years like Mike, means to me that it's pretty borderline.

If Mickey decides he's done paying tax he wants to hand over the franchise to his son on a clean slate without the tax, I won't hold it against him. It was a nice run, he brought us 3 championships/4 finals appearances in less than a decade (possibly 4 championships/5 appearances) all while paying a heavy bill in tax. Business would be a whole lot different if he had received a fair TV deal similar to the Lakers IMO. I mean it's the Big 3 on TV, which brings in high ratings.

Anyways as far as Wade goes I think there's a few things to point out:
1. He's barely a 32 MPG player anymore
2. His knees are a problem.

There are teams out there that would pay Wade 25 million a year. And these teams that would pay him are not playoff teams, they're teams that have never had a player of Wade's caliber in recent history and would have to overpay him, kind of like a Jordan/Wizards situation. It will be about ticket sales and revenue, they're not going to make a deep playoff push by just adding Wade, at best one and done. But I don't think Mickey is going to be the one that offers that amount of cash. Let's be realistic, maybe treadmill franchise like the Knicks offer him that absurd money or the Celtics, but most teams that are built deep for the playoffs will NOT give Wade 25 million a year or even 20. Or imagine Wade in a treadmill team like the Raptors, Jazz or Bucks uniform, it can happen if he wants to go after the money.

If that's what Wade wants, well I can't fault him for it, he deserves it, he's already received all the success, it's still a business and he's on the final chapter of his career after this season, he should be allowed to make all the money he wants before it ends, same with Lebron and Bosh.
