Heat seeking backcourt help

Post#1 » by heater4life » Fri Dec 6, 2013 3:34 pm

http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamihe ... e-wade-out

Article is from Brian Fathorst and it isnt anything we haven't all pondered with Joel as trade bait, but its discussion worthy none the less.

Who can we possibly be targeting, who is willing to take on Joel?

Says alot about what they really think about Wade's health moving forward. Joel, JJ, and a trade exception could fetch Aaron Afflalo but I doubt Orlando bites and probably too much loyalty to JJ.

The trump card for this team remains Greg Oden and his ability to come back and be a factor

Who could we realistically get for Joel? Lol.

Also, have we ever made a real trade since the Big 3 came together? I can only think of dumping Pittman, which doesn't really count,

We might be able to get Hawes if we send out some future draft picks with Joel. Maybe our own 2014 and Philly's 2014 back to them.

Anyway I opened a thread with a blockbuster trade idea in the Trades and Transactions board, if you're interested to share some thoughts :

If you take every hypothetical idea to heart you don't have to read it.

I personally think Windhorst is just trying to create news. Notice the title is "Heat seeking back-court trade" instead of writing "Heat seeking back-court help". I thought Wade for a second due to the title.

But that is the real question, if were actively pursuing a trade including Joel, what are some realistic options for us?

Wait, BACK court?
TRADE?!

hmmmm. that's interesting.

Edit : Ok, thinking about it it's probably more about getting rid of Joel's contract for next year then getting us a productive guard for this year.

Wade, Allen, Roger Mason, and we can and did play Cole and Rio together. Also we can bring Ennis if we want. Don't see why and who can we bring to play SG.

Brandon Rush- Utah
Tony Allen- Memphis
Jordan Crawford- Boston
Courtney Lee- Boston
Marshon Brooks- Boston
Thabo Sefolosha- OKC
PJ Tucker- Phoenix

These are just names Im throwing out there. Some of the players carry more value than a straight Joel-n-pick swap, but its a speculatory starting point.

Knowing Riley, thats a certainty. I dont see why a team like Utah wouldnt Joel+pick for Brandon Rush.

Rush adds another shooter, we clear 4M for next year. Utah gains a pick.

since we know OKC is not dealing Thabo, and Boston is not dealing with us..Im having a hard time trying to figure out what you expect to get from Rush, Allen, and Tucker that you dont get from Ray and Battier. Those are lateral moves.

Thabo and Boston overall are unlikely, just names being thrown out.

But as far as the names that are more likely, how can you consider them being "lateral moves" when the player in question (Joel Anthony) of being traded is a complete non contributor and a salary cap hindrance moving forward?

Any player that can either spread the floor with shooting, give rest to rotation players (Wade and Allen), and provide salary cap flexibility for next season is far from being a negligible acquisition.

I got one - Courtney Lee. If Celtics want to get out of his long term contract. But Not sure if we want to take on that long term contract. decent player though.

Just drop Mason Jr and pickup Stephen Jackson or Shannon Brown

Trade Joel to a team with cap room along with Philly's pick for a protected 2nd rounder...maybe. Then sign Rip, Dahntay Jones, etc.

Jackson is done and Brown can't hit shots.

Lee is actually a 39% career 3 point shooter. Just looked him up

have to go with Stephen Jackson here, he can hit the 3, he can rebound, he can post up, he can defend, he's a tough guy. He's that annoying dude u love on your team but hate when he plays against you. Can play him multiple positions 2-4. He will provide a body defending other bigs when Lebron and Battier are tired.

Look, if we keep the big 3, and we most likely will, we won't have cap space to add any free agents anyway. So getting a decent player for Joel might be good, even if we take on some salary.

Have u ever seen him play in the last few years? what are you thinking man. He got CUT by the Spurs, that's a huge sign, He's been shooting less then 30% for years now. He's 35 YO, he can't play SG or PF. He's so done, he'll never play in the NBA again. I wouldn't pick him up if he paid us. Jesus, look up some stats..

eh, he'd be fine in this system. Don't care about his so called stats. Wasn't smart of the Spurs to cut him either, but they will cut anyone for any reason. He, more than any other wing free agent can do everything we need.

If we go the Shannon Brown route, i wouldn't mind either but he's always hot and cold
