Greg Oden Watch

Post#1 » by twix2500 » Wed Jan 1, 2014 4:36 pm

Happy New Year 2014!! I think it is the time to start the Greg Oden watch. Most likely next month we will see our first appearance of Greg Oden on the floor, but there is a slim chance we may see him this month. His workouts have intensified and will continue to get more intensified. He is not going to get major minutes this year at all and the minutes we will see will be minimum as if its part of his workout program. But regardless the minimum minutes he can be a HUGE impact to this team going forward into the playoffs.

February really is the last option for him to come back and play...anything beyond that and I don t think he will be able to contribute in the playoffs.

I don't know what the hold up is, he should be in good strength and condition by now. If he was able to put in a couple minutes in October, then by January he should be able to put in some more.

"Oden is getting closer. They keep him away from us because they don't want us to see him. But on the road he can't hide, and so he has to work out in front of everybody, and he looks like he's getting better."

Not really. Miami wants to build up his lower body strength to make him less susceptible to knee injury. Something that Portland was unable to do with because of the money and expectations of a number one pick. Being done with rehab isn't the same as being in NBA shape. That stint in NBA preseason street ball was a reward to the work he put in trying to come back. It's not a Spo or Riley decision at this point. He has to pass a progression of trainer based criteria before he sees court time. I expect a late January-early February return if he progresses as expected.

IDC how long it takes for him to come back tbh. Just keep him healthy enough to contribute around 10 minutes in the playoffs against Indiana.

Having a big body to throw at Hibbert for a while is going to be HUGE for us in the playoffs. Just stay healthy Greg... Your time is coming.

I think people should do away with their own imaginary time tables. Oden is going to play and he's going to play this year. That debut could come late this month, the middle of February, or even March. People just have to be patient.

Have a feeling we see him late this month.

to be perfectly honest I would be totally fine with him not playing in the playoffs at all this year. I actually kind of prefer they get him playing some minor minutes at the end of the regular season and continue to work with him throughout the summer. they could sign him to another 1-year deal or whatever and hopefully he can contribute off the bench next year.

he didn't play for like four years, that isn't something you can reverse in four months.

I guess what i'm trying to say is I have no expectations for him this year, and the heat will be fine.

Contrary to your beliefs, they did not sign Oden with the line of thinking that he would not play this year. If he was to come back and get hurt that's one thing, but voluntarily sitting him including the playoffs? That's not even a discussion

teams intentions when they sign a player and what actually happens are two different things though.

for example, the Vikings this year signed josh freeman to be their starting quarterback for the rest of the year. he played one game and didn't get a second chance.

the heat may have signed oden to be their saving grace for the playoffs or whatever but if he's still at the point where he won't contribute much anyways sitting him might be the best solution, just keep developing him and next year have a solid player.

If one thing is guarrented it's that Windhorst won't have the story! How ESPN pays him is beyond me. He has Zero insight into this team

He's spent the last 15 years stalking LeBron. If there's one thing Windhorst knows it's obsessively leering at basketball players with disturbing dedication.

This guy looks like he's almost ready. No later then February IMO. Could probably play sooner if we needed him to.
