Did I just see expectations & Liggins in the same sentence ?

The news of Caron signing with the Thunder made some people say "Liggins better pan out" and "He better meet expectations".
Do people realize he's an insurance ticket for an insurance ticket ?
It's not like he's gonna play a major role for the Heat unless something really bad happens.
If everyone is healthy, he won't even play a minor role.
Once the playoffs start, he's not gonna see the floor unless the Heat are up 30+ points with less than 4 min left.
What "expectations" can you have from him ?
He's an end-of-the-bench guy. He's expected to waive a towel and pass the Gatorade.
No disrespect to him or his skills, but that's what happens on veteran contending teams.

I don't expect him to be around past his 10 day contract.

That's a good question.

No idea. Either way it's just a 10-day deal, it may have been just for an extra defender in practice or something.
I just hope the FO knows something we don't. Right now, I'm expecting nothing outta him.

You have people overreacting and some over hyping. Calm the hell down.
He played in the d league for our affiliate, and we always liked him.
Our d league guys highly recommended him so with the 10 day contract, it not only attracts players to our d league to show that "we give them a shot" but we also can see what Liggins has to offer.
Calm down and let Riley do his thing.

It's a little known rule that every team has to have at least one scrub. If you trade one away, you have 45 days to sign another, or risk penalties. The Heat traded away Joel, so they had to sign another scrub ASAP.
Seriously, though, people act like Riley only signs stars.
How short of a memory do you have to have to have already forgotten about Pittman, Harrellson, Varnado, Gladness ?????
Every (smart) team does that. Take a scrub, use him in practice, give him a (very very tiny) chance, and if it all works out, you might have a good role player for cheap. If not, move on to the next one.

People are always bitching about how the Heat never seem to be able to find off the grid young players and turn them into useful assets ala the Spurs or OKC then contribute angst filled comments on threads that are 15 pages long because they take a flyer on one instead of a washed up buy out.
Not saying the OP did this, but it's pretty early to say what his contributions or lack there of will be.

The Spurs are able to play great lineups and multiple players without missing a beat
The heat just wanna pick dudes up to practice? So you got UD , james jones, toney douglas, now liggins, - cant get in the game. And beasley can barely....And thats okay?
Dont pick up players (especially guards) for 10 day contracts if they gonna just sit on the bench. IF, God forbid, anything happened to wade then what? There is no guy outside of Beasley you can trust to help out and in the playoffs will we even trust Beasley. Y I just think its a dangerous game to just pile dudes on the bench that never get playing time.
San Antonio Spurs got this right. We got it wrong, we are lucky we have Lebron, wade and Bosh. As i watch Ray and battier struggle to score most nights smh...
we still have a rebounding problem and we just chilling with about 5 dudes who wont even see the court in the playoffs smh

Heat signed him because it saves like half a mil instead of signing a veteran guy who is entitled to about 1.4m for a vet contract whereas Liggins is much less.
