Justin Hamilton signed; Liggins waived

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed center Justin Hamilton and released guard DeAndre Liggins from his 10-day contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hamilton appeared in 37 games (all starts) with the HEAT’s NBA Development League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, earlier this season and averaged 19.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.03 blocks, 1.5 assists and 35.8 minutes while shooting 49.1 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from three-point range and 81.2 percent from the foul line. He recently appeared in one game with Charlotte, recording one steal in 3:44 minutes of action, after signing a 10-day contract with the Bobcats on March 4.

Hamilton, a 2014 NBA D-League All-Star, was originally drafted in the second round (45th overall) by Philadelphia in the 2012 NBA Draft and was acquired by the HEAT in a draft night trade. He appeared in five preseason games with Miami and averaged 2.6 points and 1.0 rebounds in 5.6 minutes. Additionally, Hamilton appeared in three 2012 Summer League games with the HEAT totaling 27 points and 12 rebounds in 56:43 minutes of action while shooting 8-of-17 from the field and a perfect 11-of-11 from the foul line. He then split the 2012-13 season with both VEF Riga (Latvia) of the VTB United League and Cibona (Croatia) of the Adriatic League before joining the Skyforce.

Hamilton will wear number 7.

Liggins, who was signed to two 10-day contracts by the HEAT, appeared in one game with Miami totaling two points and one rebound in 1:24 minutes.

He will not play a single second just like Liggins

After we opened a roster spot, I always thought it would be Hamilton the one we signed if we were going the young rookie route. The Liggins signing was a bit unexpected. I think the Heat were caught by surprise when the Bobcats signed Hamilton earlier.

IMO, his skill set and size is more needed at this point since Douglas has proven capable to play when called upon.

This should be interesting. Short arms, but he rebounds. Looking forward to practice reports. Hopefully we'll be able to blow out a few teams coming up.

Better late then never I guess.

If you don't try it, you never know. If you try enough young guys, you'll end up finding a few that stick.

Hope he does well for us. A big body with nice IQ, nice jump shot, questionable defense.

Wow just noticed - IT'S A 2 YEAR DEAL?!?!

That's crazy, from not staying on the roster, straight to a 2 year deal...wow.

Maybe they're taking him more seriously then I thought.....good, good, I like it.

Low risk, medium reward.

what do you mean not give him a chance? don't you think they watch him working in practice? that's his chance. just cause these guys aren't in games doesn't mean they aren't contributing to the team.

Justin Hamilton will be playoff eligible for the Heat because he was only on a 10-day contract with the Bobcats

==========

I followed both Liggins and Hamilton, Hamilton is definitely more exciting as a prospect for a bunch of reasons. Good move even if he doesn't work out. That's the type of moves we need to make, look for young guys that fit what we need (big body, real Center with good outside shot) that with some luck and developing can turn out to be nice role players for cheap.

I can't remember, but didn't he have an outside jump shot? I think he played consistent in the pre-season, unless I am speaking of someone else.

I still can't get excited about a signing on this team....I get excited when they play....I'm burnt out on Practice players. I'd love to be wrong, he is a legit 7.0 - young and may can help...

Could've used Liggins

Would've rather see Douglass get cut over Liggins, not like Douglass does anything Liggins can't do and 'Liggins can guard 1-3.

And it isn't like Douglass is gonna play over Cole or Chalmers or Ray Allen.

Heat needs an athletic wing so bad it isn't even funny.

Douglas can hit the 3's and he's a baller, not afraid. Liggins...not so much.

Anyway Blond Shaq > them both.
