With a little luck, Miami could face ideal path to finals

Post#1 » by thinktellectual » Wed Mar 26, 2014 5:16 pm

From my POV the ideal scenario would be avoiding both the Bulls and Nets before the ECF, while having the Pacers play both teams.

In order for this to happen, the Heat would have to get the 1st seed (I assume the Bulls will keep the 3rd seed) and the Nets to drop on 7th. Although I would enjoy a Bulls - Nets series, I'd rather both of them play the Pacers in the first 2 rounds.

The least likely of these to happen is the Nets dropping to 7th, but maybe the Heat can at least help the Wizards overtake the Nets, seeing the Heat still have to play both the Nets and Wizards.

A good start for that would be Charlotte beating the Nets this evening (and, of course, the Heat beating the Pacers). After that, the Bobcats have a relatively easy schedule, so they might overtake the Nets, too.

And NO, I don't want the Heat to play the Knicks in the 1st round. I want the Knicks to miss the playoffs completely.

Thoughts ?

Aren't division winners guaranteed a top-3 seed? In that scenario, the 3rd seed would have to go either Toronto or Brooklyn.

Oh, nevermind, just found the Wiki article saying that they are only guaranteed a top-4 seed:

Wikipedia wrote:The team that has the best record in each of the three divisions in each conference is declared division champion. The three division champions, and another team in the conference with the best record, are seeded one through four by their records. This guarantees the division champions no worse than the fourth seed, and also guarantees the conference's two best teams (by record) will be the top two seeds even if the second-best team doesn't win its division. Of the remaining eleven conference teams, the four with the best records are seeded fifth through eighth based on their record.

I wouldn´t worry too much about the "Ideal" path: Look through the numbers, champs usually get challenged more than once on their way to a championship, in other words you want teams that can push you to 6 games at least.

I don't think you want that. Your boy Durant would have no shot at the Finals with LeBron in his way.

Ah, true. I have seen post here and there on the Raps forum. I do know he loves himself some Derozan and KD. Remember the thread he made saying Derozan was better than PG (when PG was playing well actually) and it got moved to the PC board ?

Yeah, he's a typical hype-machine fan. He was so mad on the Raps Around the NBA thread when LeBron dropped 61 lmao

LOL yeah I remember reading those posts too. I think he has already been banned from the GB board for trolling. Go read his post in the Miami-Indy GT.

Yeah, thanks for the laugh again. I read them when he first posted that. The problem is this guy is always looking to post dumb posts like he posted in the Miami-Indy GT instead of contributing to the discussion. At least we all get to laugh.

Dumb post? Lebron was in panic mode, wanted the MVP badly, tried too hard and got himself hurt in the OKC game and got himself out of rhythm after the Bobcats game. Dumb post? LOL try again son.

Because the heat would be in that position had lebron not scored 16 pts in the 4th
