Pau Gasol thread.

Post#1 » by Grumpy Heat Fan » Sat Apr 5, 2014 5:30 pm

I am a a Spaniard so I am partial to having Pau on this team. Would be psyched if he came.

PG - Chalmers
SG - Wade
SF - LeBron
PF - Bosh
C - Gasol

Pau has said he is prioritizing winning and enjoyment over everything else, including money. Link here

This off-season, the Big 3 can all opt-out and sign new contracts. Battier is retiring, and some contracts expire like Chalmers, etc..

So what if the Big 3 structure their contracts in such a way, so that Riley can offer Pau..... say 7 mil/yr for 3 years. And the starting Center position on the Miami Heat, is his on the spot.

And Pau would get to play with Bosh, who's specialty is spreading the floor and clearing up the paint for Pau to work in.

Media attention,
nationally televised games,
get to enjoy the city of Miami which would fit Pau perfectly as a Hispanic,

and the chance to play with the most cohesive, team oriented, unselfish, fun championship team in decades. Everyone sees how happy the Heat players are with each other in the locker room. Playing with an unselfish player like LeBron, who is a willing passer at all times? To Pau, this would be a breath of fresh air after being under Kobe Ballhog Bryant all these years.

Ray Allen recently said his 2 years in Miami have been the MOST FUN IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER! After all of the fighting on the Lakers, the unhappiness and complaining by Pau of Kobe's selfishness throughout the years..... Miami is the perfect fit for him.

This is what Pau recently said :

"But I would like to first be in a position to win a championship again and enjoy the last few years of my career and be in a good position to do so," Gasol said.

Miami is the BEST team in the league to do that with. The Heat are a very fun team to play for, the Locker Room is amazing, and championship contention is a given.
DO IT RILEY!
"As for me personally, I don't truly care how much I make these days, my main focus is on playing for a winner." - Dirk Nowitzki, July 2016

Ive wanted to discuss this for a while, but given the upcoming playoffs and apprehension by most posters to discuss FA matters this early, I have refrained.

I think he would be a phenomenal fit. Can score in low post and is a very good passer. Fit on defense isnt ideal, but I think hes capable.

If we can acquire a player of his calibre at a decent price, you take him no matter what. There won't be any decent youth for us available in free agency anyways. If anything we have to get that by drafting well. You look at the Spurs who drafted George Hill in 08, turned him into a decent player and moved him for Kawhi Leonard.

i think he is going to get close to 10 mil per year. but if he wants to come here on a big discount, that would be cool

I would love to see pau on the heat, but I can only imagine how many chirps there would be about the softness of our bigs lol.

but gasol is a good passer and has developed legitimate three point range which would be amazing. the possibilities on offense are limitless.

like others have said, it depends on how much the big 3 are back for plus how much gasol is looking for. he'd probably only want a year two contract so it might not hurt that much to splurge for a year or two and develop some young (and cheap) talent in that time.

You have my interest. Gasol would be a no-brainer if he's putting winning over money and would like to come to town at a heavy discount. Heck, he should bring Xavier Henry and Kendall Marshall along while he's at it. Gasol would be fantastic next to Bosh as a shotblocker, low-post player, rebounder, and so on. This team requires heady plays by its players. Gasol is a guy that flourished in the Triangle Offense, so I have faith in his ability.

Who wouldn't want some more size and talent on this roster? At this stage in his career, we won't require 20-10 every night from him. I love having a big front line. Sign me up if it's at the right price. I'm more than willing to see him in a HEAT uniform. Looks like it's time to throw a random roster out there.

PG: Mario Chalmers - Norris Cole - Toney Douglas
SG: Dwyane Wade - Ray Allen - James Ennis
SF: LeBron James - Xavier Henry - Michael Beasley
PF: Chris Bosh - Udonis Haslem - Rashard Lewis
C: Pau Gasol - Chris Andersen - Greg Oden

I like it. We'll need some more shooters (assuming Henry isn't enough), but I like it. Size and speed.

Losing both Battier and possibly Allen, I disagree. C'mon man, you know Riley, what more do you want in youth beyond Beasley, Oden, Norris, Ennis and next years pick? This is a championship contender, you need experience that will win rings.

Hypothetically, if we lost LBJ, would you still want Gasol?

Yep. If we lose him though, I hope it'd be to the West and for a young star, players, and picks. Blake Griffin would be nice to have here though.

Pau Gasol thread.

Post#16 » by JLop » Sun Apr 6, 2014 1:57 pm

Although I'm not familiar with the contract for each player, this is an idea that might work.

For the upcoming 2014-15 season, Udonis Haslem has a player option for the amount of $ 4,620,000. In my opinion, we could offer a contract for two years, in the amount of $ 3,050,856 ($ 1,499,187 for the 2014-15 season, and 1,551,659 for the 2015-2016 season). In gratitude for the years of effort and dedication to the Miami Heat, the company would give him a special retirement package that would include a bond in the amount of $ 3,120,813 (this would be something additional to his retirement). Thus, Udonis Haslem gets the difference of $ 4,620,000, and 1,551,659 additional win for the season 2015-2016. Together as a hint to motivate, the Miami Heat will offer UD, a position with the company. This would allow us to free up the amount of $ 3,120,813 for the 2015-2016 season. At the same time, Udonis Haslem stays with the Miami Heat for the next two years earning minimum wage.

Shane Battier is retiring this year. This would allow us to free up the amount of $ 3,270,000.

Moreover, we can leave out Mario Chalmers, and Justin Hamilton. This would allow us to free up the amount of $ 4, 915,243.

The Miami Heat will offer a new contract to Chris Bosh and LeBron James for 6 years, and maintaining the same wages they have right now. In other words, nothing will change for them.

For Dwyane Wade, the Miami Heat will offer a new 5 year contract in the amount of $ 70 million ($ 14 million per year). This would allow us to free up the amount of $ 6.164 million.

In short, we can free up the amount of $ 17,470,056.

Now, the Miami Heat can offer a contract to Pau Gasol or Tyson Chandler, in the amount of $ 10 million per year, and another contract to James Ennis in the amount of $ 507,336 per year. This leaves the Miami Heat the total of $ 6,962,720 to recruit a point guard.

If the Miami Heat can free up an additional $ 7,037,280 we can use up to $ 14 million to bring in another superstar player (someone young like Kyrie Irving).

This would allow us to stay with the same team, minus Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier and Justin Hamilton.

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat would add: Kyrie Irving, Pau Gasol, and James Ennis.

We would be as follows:

Miami Heat starters
LeBron James
Dwyane Wade
Chris Bosh
Kyrie Irving
Pau Gasol

Can't afford him. Worried about how he'd do in our offense too. He'd be a fantastic pickup for cheap but that isn't going to happen.

I think he's a nice option if Bosh decides he wants to go after more money. (though with cali state taxes I'm not sure it makes sense for Bosh to go to LA).

Bosh

S&T

Gasol
Meeks
filler
draft pick

We get older at the C/PF position but we get a nice young guard that can come off the bench and provide instant offense.

Horrifyingly bad. I'm not letting a near max contract player go for an aging Gasol, Jodie Meeks, trash, and a useless pick. I want a young replacement for Bosh if nothing else and a bunch of first rounders.
