Except the team had nothing to do with this billboard.

Yeah, "**** Clear Channel!" seems to be the appropriate response to this, as with many things Clear-Channel-related

I hope Riley passes in that billboard picture as a business card to each player...time to get to motivating Riles!

lol .. bad example .. but maybe I'm in the minority here

But I don't like our response though .. would have preferred it if (like the team), whoever it was that put up the "old" billboard had taken the high road.

If "Bought" means not only 3 Peating but eliminating the team who was "Built" for the 2nd consecutive year & competing for championships every year then i'm all in

If by "built", they mean "egregiously tanked with a playoff-caliber team to land a generational talent in the lottery", then yeah.

Who cares...."built" or "bought", the aim to win games and compete for championships. If I'm a GM/President, and you don't like my methods for reaching that point, then you can kiss my ***.

Sure about that, buddy?
http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAS/1997.htmlDavid Robinson missed all but six games with the back injury that robbed him of his all-star abilities. That team was solid, but without their franchise center, they weren't going anywhere with some of the guys they had.
Not in the Western Conference, at least. Take a look at his output prior to and after his back injury:

Yes, buddy. And he didn't miss the season with a back injury. His back spasms started in the preseason. He returned from them in December, until he fractured his foot (also in December). When it happened, the team physician said he could be back in 6 weeks, although it could take up to a max of 12 weeks. He missed the rest of the season. In the beginning of February, they decided to shelve Sean Elliott with knee tendinitis. He didn't play for the rest of the season. They didn't exactly push Chuck Person to get back on the court, either. He missed the season with back spasms, after having played 80 games in the prior season and 61 in the next.
This was a team that won 59 games the season prior, whose GM just happened to install himself as head coach once things looked bleak. That guy now has a career winning percentage of .686. And they won 20 games, at one point losing 26 of 30 from early January to early March to separate themselves from the pack. The only teams who lost more were the expansion Grizzlies and the Celtics, whose head coach admitted to tanking.
Also, what do you mean "not in the Western Conference"? The Western Conference was way weaker at the bottom in '97. The Clippers made the playoffs at 36-46 behind the dynamic duo of Loy Vaught and Malik Sealy. It took nothing to make the playoffs that year, assuming you actually wanted to.

I don't know how "bought" is even an applicable term here. What exactly did we buy? The big 3 made the decision to join up and take less money doing so. Was there a bidding war I missed? There's nothing accurate about an insult like that.
Now, that I think about it, none of the general public's insults make any sense. "There are no shortcuts, Lebron" - "They took the easy way out" - "They didn't build their team the right way"
