I attended the kick-off to Irie Weekend last night in South Beach and a late comer to the event was Shawn Marion. Was able to ask a couple questions during our convo and he did say he'll be meeting with the Rile's soon...most likely today, I'm sure.

a bit on the older side but not a bad role player to fill the squad

a 10/6 producer last year and still a good defender...and can be had for the vet minimum, not a bad option

Would be a solid addition. Slots in well for Battier, is versatile, still defends well. Probably will fall off a cliff like Battier did, but if we get 1 or 2 good seasons...

This might sound bad

But I'm sure he'll try harder this time lol

And he is still an above average defender and at worst he'd be at average

Marion said Raptors coach Jay Triano plans to push the tempo now that the versatile forward has joined the team. Marion said it will be a welcome change from the more conservative offense he played in Miami.

"The game is supposed to be exciting," Marion said Tuesday as he and Banks were introduced to the Toronto media. "I'm tired of playing that boring style in the half court, watching everybody just go up and run plays, call this play. That's boring. The fans don't enjoy it either. People like to see you get up and down, have high-scoring games and dunks and all that stuff. That's what it's about."

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo, who drafted Marion in 1999 when he was GM of the Suns, expects the four-time All-Star to fit right in.

"It's a chance for Shawn to be a little bit more useful to his team," Colangelo said. "I don't think they were fully maximizing his potential down in Miami. That was maybe a system thing more than anything else. I think the system here will work in his favor."

I think he has matured a lot since then.

Just saying

What Marion didn't realize that besides him, Wade and Haslem, we had GARBAGE. We had Quinn, Blount, Diawara, Richardson, Ricky Davis, and many other scrubs. Try running a fast pace game with scrubs like that and we would have set the record in turnovers in a single season.

Riley tampering?

Either way, I would welcome him for the minimum. He is a better offensive/defensive rebounder than Battier and a good defender. He can hit the 3 at times too but he is not the athletic freak most of us remember. I wouldn't have him as a priority.

While I think Marion is a logical option to replace the veteran swingmen we are losing off the bench, Riley is prevented from contacting outside free agents right now. Just so everyone is aware.

Good option. We get some help from the bench.

It's Miami, pretty sure 80% of the players in the NBA have a scheduled vacation to Miami this offseason.

i think they needed defense more than offense this past post season...even in this past regular season. Marion does bring this attribute, as well as a descent offensive game. it's nothing spectacular, but he's productive on both ends of the court, not a liability on one.

I like Marion. He has heart. He makes timely plays also. You always need a guy like that
