Lebron's Max Contract Demands fueled by Union?

Post#1 » by dcee101 » Fri Jul 4, 2014 5:18 pm

We all know that Lebron has taken an active role in representing the players and eventually may run the players union.

Is it really unreasonable to assume that his union activity and high profile position may be one of the driving reasons why he is pushing for a max contract despite a net worth of a quarter billion?

I haven't seen this brought up but I think it's a reasonable conclusion to jump to.

Lebron is going to screw over this franchise, Heat fans, his teammates, and his friends ... for the good of the union?

Lebron needs to get rid of the hangers on that are filling his head with bad advice.

I'm not saying this is the case. I'm saying that as the future face of the union there may be some politics involved. Especially with the CBA looming in a few years.

Politics aren't helping this team "improve at every position" like he said we needed to do. And no, I think that's just a convenient excuse for him demanding max money.

There's some merit to this. It simply isn't good from a negotiating standpoint from the NBPA perspective, if the best player in the league isn't being paid his true market value.

When did the max become anything other than the max?

If every player got their max would that be fine ?

Very few take the max, most are just happy to play.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

Every player can't get a max but the max is reserved for true superstars and the top players in the game. Because the NBA works with a salary cap and max contracts, other players fall on the scale somewhere based on their ability/talent/skill/demand.

You miss the point.

Max is maximum - the most possible - impossible to exceed. No-one has to have the maximum. :noway:

It's like you being able to eat 100 hot dogs - that's the max after that you explode. You don't have to eat 100 you could just eat 2 and feel happy.

A max contract is not something a player has to have. Ask TD, ask Dirk, Ask Wade, Ask Lebron.

That analogy makes no sense.

TD/Dirk played for the max in their primes and have only taken pay-cuts recently. Wade and LeBron already took very small pay-cuts once. If they both take pay-cuts below their market value I will be happy, if they don't then they don't.

In a league with a salary cap I don't think this is much of a concern.

The max is the max whether LeBron takes it or not. If there wasn't an individual player max and there wasn't a salary cap, I think the union would be a lot more concerned, because his salary would have much more of a ripple effect. However, because LeBron is not shaping these ceilings naturally -- they're artificially set by the CBA -- I don't think it's as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

Isn't one of his goals to be a billionaire? They should just hire is wife as VP of Marketing for Mickey's cruise line and pay her 10 million a year. Lebron still gets his family money.

I think it's more that this is the first contract his boy rich paul is getting a commission on so he wants him to get paid.

Also he's tired of giving discounts if he's just going to carry the team anyways.

I mean who is left in FA that it's possible to get now?

Except the guy who makes your hot dogs has billions of them laying around because his dad owned a hot dog factory before he died and left them to that guy.

You ate less hot dogs than you could have last year but instead of giving them to other people the hot dog guy just shoved them into his pocket. He also cheaped out and got cheaper hot dogs even though he has billions of them.

Also all four of the guys you mentioned have signed max contracts.

Well at least there wasn't a direct hit on me there.

Your dislike of the Owners and management is more of a fantasy world than I live in.

You're Spo, Arison noises are sounding more like GT3's Spo, Anthony, elf ears noises.

I'm happy to disagree with you and move on as opposed to the incessant walls of writing you wasted last time.

I don't think it has anything to do with the union. If he wants max money, it's because he wants to get paid pure and simple.

I've mentioned this 2 days ago on the offseason thread, it's not just Lebron it's the whole league, that Donald Sterling event and the Ballmer bid really changed the way players viewed their salaries, the union is getting ready for a lockout and they're telling the players not to settle, get as much as you possibly can, they're getting robbed blahblahblah. And I don't blame the NBAPA, but it is broken because the salary cap Is not high enough to balance the new raises they're seeking.

Lebron is the best player in the entire NBA. He deserves the max. I know it sucks, but the revenue he generates for the Heat alone yearly must exceed $100 million. Even at $22 mil per year, he is a bargain.

If you think a couple months of this is bad when the Heat have the best position to resign him, then try being Cleveland or Orlando with Dwight dealing with it for an entire year.
