We know that the underlying reason for all the success that this franchise has experience has primarily been due to one person, the Godfather. He has turned this organization into one of the best and most stable sports franchises. With that being said how long does everyone think he will be around for? My guess is at least 4 seasons. I think with 6 leaving it rekindled the competitive fire in him to prove again to everyone he can survive after losing the greatest player in our game. 4 years will take us 2 years beyond 2016 free agency. Give him one last chance to reel in the big fish before he sails off into the California sunset.

There haven't been any reports of declining health, so I'm going to say 5 more years.

I've heard he has built an epically sweet place in Malibu and sold his home in Miami and those would tend to point towards sooner rather than later. I think the plan was to win this past year, resign LeBron, and spend more time in Cali. Now I think he wants to sign a star after the new CBA expires and make one last run.

He's still got a ballin' ass penthouse though at Apogee SoBe.

To answer the question this thread poses, I think he has one more run left in him. So, I expect it to happen a little bit past 2016.

Maybe when the Wade and Bosh era is over
So in 5 years probably
We shall see if we get another star or someone develops
I do think 2016 is his last hoorah to do something big

I think he will try to put together one more championship contending team, seeing it win a title and retire. I'm sure he's thinking right now 2017 retirement, if he lands big in 2016.

Riley can have the same drive to continue to have a major influence on the franchise using the structure he spent almost 2 decades setting up. Even part time from Cali. That's what I don't understand from Knick's fan who continually yammer about PJ being Riley at the same stage and age when he never exhibited any desire to build organizations or interact with management.
Riley can continue to contribute because of his previous work with a far lighter load because of that. GM ? Riley guy. Coach ? Riley guy. Training staff ? Riley guy.
Good luck Phil.

Erik Spoelstra will step into the GM role in the coming years. He's being groomed to take over.

Too much pride to walk away before rebuilding a championship team. I think if LeBron had stayed for multiple years, he'd of retired when LeBron left/retired. Now he's got something to prove. Not to us. Not to anyone else. But himself.
What Riles needed to push him to stick around was a challenge. He's got one now.
All this talk about building this back into a "generational team" confirms that.

Riley is no spring chicken. Yes he is energized and I believe he will see this through past the summer of 2016 when he could take another shot at building his generational team. I still believe that Riley walks from the game before or at the same time Wade does and it only makes sense. We'll retire an armani suit to the rafters to complete our very own Boston-Red-Auerbach-type of years in our franchise history..

Dude feels slighted by what LeBron did. He's motivated to make another big splash in 2016. Could see him sticking around until 2018.

It'd be fitting if him and Wade retired the same year.

Yeah, I thought Riley was probably going to retire in 1 or 2 years. Now I think he's motivated to stick around longer.
Maybe the potential of Riley retiring was one of the reasons why LeBron left? Well Pat isn't going anywhere now, by the looks of it.

Riley will retire after ONE LAST SCORE.
Btw who do we expect to take over as President? I know Any Ellisburg is a cap genius but I'm not sure if he's the type of guy who can walk into a room and drop rings on the table (very few can do that though)

I was thinking about this before the Lebron exit and even more so after his exit. I believe Pat Riley is preparing for his exit starting after Lebron left. And i think he was planning on starting his exit at this point any ways. I think in 2-3 years the reign will be given to Alonzo Mourning. Pat has been grooming Zo for a while now, and we may start hearing about that torch being passed over very soon. So be on the watch for Mourning job descriptions or responsibilities changing.
