LeBatard: Pau was set to sign with Heat til Lebron text him

Interesting info on Reddit.

This was just said during the local hour of Dan LeBatard's radio show. Apparently Riley had Gasol locked up until LeBron told Pau he wasn't coming back. This was before Riley was informed that LBJ wasn't coming back.

I don't have a link or anything but if you do a twitter search for "gasol lebron" you will see several people talking about it.

Pau / Andersen
Bosh / McRoberts
Lebron / Deng / Granger
Wade / Allen
Chalmer / Cole / Napier

Hmm.. it could have been an extraordinary team. Bosh and Wade would have to take a substantial pay cut though.

Heard he left a piece of gum in his locker when he left too.

Can we just move on? The dude is gone.

LeBron always had his mind set on going back to CLE for years, would've been nice to get Pau though. But lets just move on already, it's been two months.

Why do yall keep including Deng on a roster if we kept James?

Yeah, Deng wouldn't have been here if that were the case, probably neither would have McRoberts.

This leads me to believe LeBron had been wanting to go back for a while and that interview on NBATV where he said he couldn't envision a scenario where he leaves Miami was all crap. However, I was thinking that he left with the idea of having a better team in Cleveland, and now I realize that Miami would have had the better team, our only weakness (rebounding) would have disappeared with Gasol and Bosh starting.

Honestly, dude just wanted to go back home. He had a job at Google, and went to work for McDonalds, because it was closer to home.

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Im just more annoyed over the fact that it's become more and more evident that the dude knew eons ago that he wasn't going to re-sign. Instead of the big circus-act he could have just said 'hey I'm signing with the Cavs, thnx for everything, peace' and we could have had more time to sign FAs.

But it is what it is.

Gasol, Mcbob, Granger and just a younger team in general is a solid re-tool but ah well.

With that said, If we knew before hand that Lebron was not coming back, we could have overpayed for Gasol and tried to still lure deng in.

A lineup of Gasol/Bosh/Deng/Wade/Rio is a championship contender IMO.

im sure LEbron had his reasons for not coming back. To go into detail wouldnt do him or anyone else any good. He is a Cav we have our own team to deal with but ya that Gasol addition would have been nice.

Why are people insisting to move on? This information is just coming out now. You guys may not care, but i'm sure as heck upset about it. Having Gasol along with Bosh and Wade on the roster would made us contenders in the East and a better shot at taking out Cleveland.

This guy had already made up his mind. He was talking with Love and his current teammates before his decision, so why feel the need to contact Gasol?

:banghead:

Like people have said, its not about him leaving. ITs about him letting us know, why is he telling everyone his decision before Riley? Have enough respect to tell the man that built this team, that defended you? Its sickening.

Im just annoyed he didn't give us a heads up, if Pat knew he was leaving we would have a better team now.

I don't care about him leaving, but im annoyed as **** about how we didn't maximize our options after he did.

Bledsoe/Napier
Wade/Shumpert
Ennis/Granger
Bosh/Mcbob
Gasol/Bird

Best team in east IMO.

lebron decided to leave and I'm sure he was hoping beyond hope to decimate the team to remove any form of competition for him. fortunately we didn't fall too far.

it seems he was telling everyone but the heat brass and wade (if I recall wade said he wasn't told until shortly before the official announcement) just shows you his true colors and hiw good PR can cover it up.

no point in getting hung up about all this now. he may find that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

LeBitch obviously had a problem with the coaching staff & most notably Arison for letting go of Mike Miller...He could rot in Cleveland for all I care but telling everybody else instead of the man (Riley) who sat back and defended you when Cleveland fans were burning your jersey and the owner of the Cavs basically called you a quitter is some real stank ish

That had nothing to do why he left. He left to Cleveland to to gain power and control.

This, and a younger Big 3. It intrigues me to see if LeBron is going to get more calls now that he is away from the Heat.
