If speculation is true about this new deal, next year the cap should jump up to 89 millionish. Come next year we'd have a little less than 20 million left. That's fine and dandy but by 2016 we will have only 29 million on the books. This is a total of 60 million we have to spend (with CB and mcroberts still on the books). This means we could sign 2 more players at 20 million a piece and get Dwyane and some role players. I am excited to see what Pat pulls out in the coming years

Out of every possible Free agent in 2016. I think Dwight Howard is the most possible for us.

As much as i like beal i think we would require a superstar or star and i dont think beal have that potential in him. Would be a cool aditicion but not as the main guy. As far as dwight..no. Good player but i dont see the champion flare in him. KD would be a pipe dream...can we do it? Thinking too much :crazy:

Gasol would be a great move.

Isn't Faried today kicking himself. He announced his extension like hours before the broadcast deal. He could have easily been at $15-17M per year in the new deal, as opposed to $12 average.

Don't forget that max deals are calculated as percentage of the cap, so a max deal will be much higher, too.
Those 60 mil might just be enough for 2 max deals.
And everyone will be looking for a raise.

I think the smartest thing to do now (and in 2015) would be to lock up some players on long term deals (Bosh is a good example), then in 2016 use the remaining cap space to lure a superstar (Durant ?) and a few more pieces.

And if teams are looking to unload some long term deals in 2015 in order to be players in free agency, if those players are interesting, I think Riley should use the contracts that expire in 2016 as trade bait (Deng, Granger, Chalmers, who else ? - obviously not Wade or Haslem).

Not a big fan of Dwight or Paul George, but if any of them becomes available, I'd trade for them.
Dwight would cover a big hole for the Heat.

And don't tell me Durant wouldn't at least consider a team with Bosh and Dwight.

Really doesn't mean much, yes, we will have more cap space, but player contracts increase at the same rate. Durant will be getting 30 mil per year most probably. Bosh's contract looks like a bargain now.

I'm hoping we can land some core guys into long deals next year and go after a superstar in 2016.

While I agree Howard would be a nice pickup. I do not think you will see him leave Houston after the way he got there. I think the more realistic option is Al Horford. He probably wants to get away from that dumpster fire Hawks organization. He and Bosh in the front court would be very versatile and then have McRoberts back them up. All we would then need is keep an aging Wade and Deng and sign a top flight young offensive minded point guard. Maybe Conley or Brandon Knight who is from this area and is continuing to develop. I think the Durant rumors are all nice but I don't think it is realistic. Then again whoever thought before the summer of 2010 we would get James.

There is a reason Pat had everyone sign 2 year deals

Bosh's contract doesn't look so bad now and we got McBob for a sweet deal the next 4 years (probably will opt out in his 4th year for more money if he does have an opt out)

And yes I also think Dwight is a possibility if he opts out in 2016. Bosh will still be here, he could go back to his natural position. Odd man out would be McBob but I won't get too ahead of myself with that scenario

If Houston continues to fail and get knocked out in the first round, or don't even make the playoffs, he is definitely leaving Houston. I always thought (when he was with the Magic) he would be a Laker like the next Shaq, but he only stayed one year and had a horrible time. I think we will be a good choice.

People like to **** on us but with the books being small in 2016 for us, we are more ready than most teams and will still be relevant. That will definitely be Pats last hoorah to do something big.

I'd love me some Horford.
Although, just like Bosh, he's a PF pretending to be a C and he'd be much better off if he could play his natural position.

Noah would be another option.
He talked trash about the Heat while with the Bulls, but I don't think that would stop him from signing.
Noah & Bosh would be even better than Bosh & Horford.

Yes to Wade
No to Deng.

Deng will be in that place in his career where he'll still command a pretty big salary, but will soon begin declining. That's the worst moment to sign FAs. Think Boozer in 2010, or Ben Wallace in 2006.

Conley will be 29. Not quite that young.
And I am not big on Knight.

But PGs are a dime a dozen these days.

I wonder if this could work under the cap:

Sign Dragic in 2015 (if the league increases the cap in 2015 in order to avoid a giant leap in 2016)
Trade for Paul George, Marc Gasol or Dwight in the summer of 2015 or during the season
Sign Durant and/or Noah in 2016.

You could end up with:

Dragic
Wade
PG OR Durant
Bosh
Dwight OR Noah OR Gasol

That would be insane.

I thought Miami had over 50% chances of landing him.
