Did Zo get screwed out of the MVP in 1999?

Another debate between Wade and Lebron has been posted on the GB discussing who was more worthy of the MVP award in 2009. It's hard to argue Wade over Lebron just by going by win totals. I beliee a more complelling case can be made for Zo over Malone. What do you guys think?

Yes, Zo was robbed. That was the strike shortened year and Zo was a beast. But Malone, which Utah had lobbied soooo hard for the year before, essentially won on memory of the previous season since it was a short season. Of course this was the year we were bounced by the Knicks in round 1 by Allan Houston. We were favored to win the East when the playoffs began and Riley even made a mock up championship banner to excite the team. I would argue that Duncan probably deserved MVP that year as well, as it was his coming out and the Spurs won their first championship with Duncan MVP. Beating those very Knicks that bounced us on the last shot.

It was not unlike Nash winning his second when Shaq deserved it in 2005.

There have been four deserving MVP seasons in Miami that went unrewarded. Zo in '99, Shaq in '05, Wade in '08, and Lebron in '10. It's a media gifted award though. That diminishes it greatly. Also, it's so subjective on so many different factors. Duncan could have also won in '99, Paul in '08, etc. The great thing about looking at that list of names is it showcases the level of talent this team keeps cycling through.

Mourning should've won. He was 10x the defender.

LOL.. just notice that we are making GB a Heat board for some reason today... MVP is too subjective, but Zo Beasted... F*ing Knicks spoiled that year. No matter, MVP has been a joke since MJ days.

MJ was robbed too many times, but that is the nature of the Media beast.

I think Duncan deserved it the most anyway. I don't think Zo was really robbed.

The crazy thing about that year was Malone was 35 and had just played 13 straight seasons of 80+ games (missing less than 2 games every year for 13 years) so over 1040 games into his career.

For some perspective Wade is only 32 and has more than 300 less games on his legs and we think of him as an older guy

Weak year for MVP candidates but Zo should of won if Karl was only putting up those numbers and you got Alonzo playing on a good team with a vast gulf in defense
