They would have signed Pau Gasol. How many championships do you think they could have won? Made this post on the general board and was just wondering what Heat fans thought about this?

I know it's still super early and Cleveland can still turn the corner, but this is much worse than I expected. I expected struggles, but not this badly. Lebron looks old and tired. Last week, he looked pretty great, this week has been rough. Could be other things, but he just doesn't look the same.

Anyway, if LBJ comes back to Miami and they would have signed Gasol, this would almost be a guaranteed Finals appearance and possible championship. Gasol would have helped tremendously on the glass and with the rim protection. Another smart, high IQ guy with great passing skills and post moves. Would have been something to see.

Hope the Cavs right the ship and I truly hope LBJ turns it up and looks like the player we're used to seeing.

Gasol would fix size issues while not sacrificing the spacing. He rebounds, blocks, alters shots, plays defense, finishes around the rim, shoots and passes the ball. Oh, also has post moves, that would be a nice change to our offense now wouldn't it? He would be a perfect player for our team. Let's not even mention that with James staying there would be other free agents waiting in line to join the team. But let's say Gasol is the only newcomer:

Napier/Cole
Wade/Rio/Allen
James/Ennis/Williams
Bosh/McBob/Haslem
Gasol/Birdman

How many championships? Nobody here knows and nobody here cares. We are finally enjoying team basketball with no media spotlight on LeBrons bowel movements. Him leaving might be the best thing that happened to us since him and Bosh coming over back in 2010.

But if you really want an speculative answer to your question, here it is. Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4...

LeBron missed out on the formation of a dynasty down here. Considering Riley was about to bring in both Gasol and Deng after already signing McRoberts & Williams, bringing Ennis home from Australia, and drafting Shabazz, this team would have been fantastic on paper considering Mario Chalmers' sudden resurgence.

Wade and James would score most of the paint points, while Napier and Bosh would handle things from midrange and deep. Very versatile.

But Lebron made his decision. He left Heaven where he was a Triumphant Prince to become a Despotic King once again in Hell. It's over now.

shoulda, coulda, woulda< did'na. Forget him. The Heat need to work with what they have. However, I still believe in Riley's ability to make them a contender again. Don't forget how amazing it was when the Heat got Shaq; no one saw that coming. Almost the same with LeBron, if Bosh didn't carry his emotions on his face.

^ Are you insane? The Heat wouldn't be able to afford Gasol, Deng, Granger AND Mcbob. Hell they wouldn't even able to sign BOTH Deng and Gasol.

Edit: Anyways I've been over the 'he could have still been a Heat player narrative', he's a Cleveland Cavalier now and I'm truly enjoying all the hardships he's having.

The numbers dont add up.... The main sell was Granger and McRoberts which is more on the comical side. Remember Lebron was not going to take any pay cut after what happened to Miller. The main sell was Granger and McRoberts

Bosh was gonna take a pay cut, he said he would to keep it together. LeBron wasn't gonna take another pay cut, I didn't mind that. Wade took a pay cut, and was paid 15mil.

So lets say 22mil (whatever it is LeBron's max, forgot the number), 15mil Wade, and Bosh 18-19mil?

We would have been able to sign McBob, Gasol, sign our rookies, and that would have been enough.

Williams is on vet min.

Deng would not come here if LeBron was playing... and not for cheap.

But like Pat said, we needed to retool, and not rebuild. That team gets to the Finals.

last spot dont matter.. probably more rooks, or Ray comes back, JJ stays even, who knows

but that team gets to the Finals once again. Thing is our wing defense wouldn't be as good, we need a Battier (first 2 years) type player. Tbh Ariza instead of Deng would have been awesome this season, AND he was at a good price. Ennis we probably would have been molding to be that guy. Granger ain't that guy... who knows. Though I'm not sure if we get McBob if we get Gasol.

Regarding if we would have went after Granger/McBob, keep in mind LeBron had no communication with Pat. If LeBron said he wasn't interested in those players then we wouldn't have signed them. I like the McBob signing, but Granger is awful so far. We also could have went after better players really early if LBJ wasnt so aloof but... it is what it is.

This really doesn't bother me anymore, I am fine moving forward. But again, we do make a 5th Finals appearance. We made the Finals last year barely even trying... seriously.

So NEXT YEAR, we will put this LBJ topic to rest right? Ok, go ahead get him out of your system for this year, BUT NEXT YEAR...LET THIS SH@T GO

The main sell was Granger and McRoberts because we operated as a cap-team and since nobody knew what LeBron was going to do, neither Gasol nor Deng were going to commit to sign here for a discount before they knew he'd be here too. Especially since both received good offers in the open market, they could not commit to anything.
