Detroit Pistons released forward Josh Smith

Post#2 » by twix2500 » Mon Dec 22, 2014 5:24 pm

Stan Van Gundy released the following statement : "Our team has not performed the way we had expected throughout the first third of the season and adjustments need to be made in terms of our focus and direction. We are shifting priorities to aggressively develop our younger players while also expanding the roles of other players in the current rotation to improve performance and build for our future. As we expand certain roles, others will be reduced. In fairness to Josh, being a highly versatile 10-year veteran in this league, we feel it’s best to give him his freedom to move forward. We have full respect for Josh as a player and a person."

I think he will likely clears waivers and may be perfect to use the injury exception that the Heat got for McRoberts.

Sign him. He might be dumb but he's a perfect fit.

Sign the beast! Seriously though, this lineup is so blah that I'd sign him for one year just generate any type of buzz.

I don't think he'd be nearly as bad when played as a PF. Also, we already have a jump shooting big in Chris Bosh. J-Smoove is seriously a good fit.

Do not want.

Smith slotted at the 4, jacking up shots left and right with no concept of team play and with a **** attitude. Yeah, let's sign up for that. There's a reason the Hawks let him walk and the Pistons just paid him to go away.

You guys are funny, what makes you think he'd play when the Heat don't even want to sign Beasley. A guy who'd be the best '4' and back up SF on the team easily.

Talented but low IQ, same story.

Our D is so poor this year, he can make a difference on boards / rim protection. Don't think he'd be interested but if he is, don't see how you can pass on the talent.

Ha... Our PFs currently are shawne, McBob who is out and UD

Unless you have the loyalty of UD, you shouldn't play PF on this team if you can't shoot

We already tear our hair out with Rio when he is a bonebead, Cole too, whoever else. We do not need another bonehead. Especially one who should be in the paint and he is always clanking 3s..

We don't even have the space, surprised Detroit couldn't trade him. I didn't even know you can waive someone with a huge contract. We will be forced to cut Dawkins to use that injury exception thing if we get it to use in Smith and it's just 2mil... Don't think he comes and don't want him really

Well Beasley can't play defense at all, he is worse than Shawne Williams on both ends

He's in china for a reason

Surprised by the responses in here, especially after losing Mcbob for the year.

Josh Smith would be a great addition, especially for these two years where we're gonna run wade and deng for all they have left.

As long as it doesn't affect 2016 free agency, I'm all for it

Im game, it amazes me how some on you like McRoberts and Williams but think Smith is no good. Smith is a good player Way better than any of our frontcourt players outside of Bosh. He wasnt worth his contract in Detroit and was playing out of position. He can flourish here. Rebound, defend and offensively better than what we have. If Spo wants to play small uptempo ball he fits that bill. Just need a point guard to create shots for him, you do not want him creating on his own.

Not what we need. Not a long term answer to anything here.

Not even a short term answer really.

As expected. We are very shallow on talent. We will turn over every stone. He also fits our small ball mentality.

Return to Miami Heat
