Nuggets fire sale: Would Lawson be worth taking on Javale. At what price ?

Post#1 » by thinktellectual » Thu Jan 8, 2015 6:31 pm

I don't like to make this kind of threads discussing imaginary trade scenarios.
But I find this intriguing.

Apparently the Nuggets have realized they won't make the playoffs - 5 months after everybody else - and decided to offer anybody for trade. Would they be willing to package Javale with Lawson for a package centered around McBob, Chalmers, Cole and some more salaries and probably a pick ?

Here's why I think this might be interesting for the Heat:

- Lawson would help fix the hole at PG. He's shoot first, but I think he's a decent playmaker and he's only 27, so should be entering his prime
- Lawson's salary is around 11 mil per, and runs till 2017. With an increasing cap, it will be a bargain.
- Javale expires in 2016, while McBob has 4 more years on his contact. This is giving the Heat a big expiring that can be used to match salaries if a trade comes along next summer or by the Feb 2016 trade deadline - just in case OKC finds out Durant will leave and decides to trade him instead of losing him for nothing
- You don't have to worry about paying Cole next summer or replacing him. Get the cheapest 3rd string PG you can find and roll with Lawson and Napier.

Nuggets traded Mozzy because of the high value Cleveland were offering. It was the perfect time to sell high on Mozzy. He has been outplayed by rookie Jusuf Nurkic, who looks like a future star at center.

I don't think Lawson is available, he's a high impact player.

They squeezed out 2 1st rounders for Mosgov

They about to feed on people desperation, we have no assets

Also last I checked they were trading everyone away BUT Lawson and Faried

Ty Lawson is literally everything we need and more. But it would require significant attractive assets to make that deal. Something we don't have. If Riley could pull that off, I'd Soak his desk.

Absolutely, even with JaVale McGee expiring a year after the money summer. McGee's an idiot but a force when harnessed properly. His skill set would turn him into a monster on this team, and with a lineup of Lawson/Wade/SF/Bosh/McGee would be intriguing. Thing is, Miami doesn't have the assets to make this deal, and as KingDavid said above, this would be highway robbery unless a third and/or fourth team were involved.

I really dislike Javale Mcgee, but anything is better than this. If thats what it takes to get Lawson and to never see Cole play again, I'm here for it.

What would be even better is to do a 3 team trade and send McGee elsewhere.

If, if Lawson was ever on the table, and if, if, we had a chance of getting him without giving up Wade or Bosh, then I would say no doubt. Even if it means taking back McGee. Lawson is a bonafide star, and if we could put him next to Wade then it would add years to his career.

Since become a full time starter in 11-12 he has never averaged below 16.4ppg, he has shot better than 35% from the 3 in all season (but this one), and his assists have continued to go up each year.

Despite all of McGee's bone head plays (of which there are many), he has always been a great contributor according to advanced stats - his PER had risen every year up until last year, and never been below 17 before last year!

The closest thing I can think of that would be close to working is:
Deng/Bird/McBob/Napier/2 1sts (2017, 2019 top-10 protected) for Lawson/McGee/Gee
I'm fine with that trade, but I'd be shocked if Denver agreed (it also works swapping McBob or Bird out for Cole)

i do not think the nuggets are having a fire sale. As Eleqtrigue stated, Mozgov was traded because of what Cleveland offered. JaVale McGee is fighting a leg injury since last year that hasnt healed. I like him to fit the Heat, I think because we preach defense he would excel.

Mozgov was traded because Nurkic was the clearly better player and they could pick up assets without losing much

BTW I called Nurk a future stud on draft night, he's just not the best fit here because he's not the elite rim protector I wanted next to Bosh but it was clear the kid has a ton of talent and has a rare size/quickness combo. He's going to be one the best offensive bigs in the league pretty soon, just watch.

I think Cole would be dealt some way or another, more like a freebie, "just take it and go" type of scenario.

I feel like Lawson should be untouchable. Not sure if he is worth wrecking 2016 for, but he is an amazing PG. I'd consider it.

They got more for Mozgov than this trade
