We wouldn't have offered Harden only $54mill over 4years…
Maybe so, but this team also had LeBron James in his prime. Not sure Durant wants to try to fill in those shoes here.
So true, Underrated factor right there.
Stars players today are super self-conscious about the media narratives. There's no way Durnat comes to a place where he knows he's got huge shoes to fill, will constantly get compared to LBJ, big wining will be expected, the Media folks would suck all the joy out of it.
And frankly to a degree rightfully so, Joining the Heat after what we already did with Wade and then Lebron - It's not a great story for a young superstar carrier. He needs to write his own story and find a new original path.

IMO I would be pretty happy if we can sign a young guy like Harrison Barnes and keep Whiteside next summer. I think we get in the meeting with Durant, but I can't see us being the clear top choice for him

East observations
-Cleveland maintains their core, curious to see if JR stays
-Chicago seems to be pretty much bringing back the same squad.. Not sure they have the personnel in the frontcourt to run Hoibergs new system.
-Atlanta fixed a weakness by getting Splitter, but lost the perimeter defense of Caroll, can't be in the same as conference as Lebron with a defensive hole at that spot
-Toronto basically swapped backcourt depth of Vasquez and Lou for Carroll and Biyombo's defense, a top 4 seed cause that atlantic division is trash
-Milwaukee has another year of experience for their super young core and added a post presence in Monroe, MCW is bad though..
-Wiz lost pierce but got Dudley, I'll say they'll be the same as last year
Anything I missed?

Seems about right, however I can see Detroit having a legit chance of replacing the lower seeds in the East.

The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to convince DeAndre Jordan to reconsider his decision to sign with the Mavericks after Jordan verbally committed to join Dallas last week, according to league sources.
Free agents are traditionally considered off limits once they strike a verbal agreement with a team during the NBA's annual moratorium period, but sources said that the Clippers have pushed to secure a meeting Wednesday in Houston for coach/team president Doc Rivers and possibly owner Steve Ballmer to make one last face-to-face pitch to Jordan in an attempt to convince him to walk away from the four-year, $80-plus million max deal he committed to with the Mavericks and instead stay with L.A.
Sources say that some Clippers players have been in contact in recent days as well with Jordan, who informed both teams of his decision last Friday and then flew to his offseason home in Houston.
Thursday is the first day teams and players can formally sign contracts once the moratorium is lifted. Sources say the Clippers, since Jordan's return to Houston, have been bypassing his representatives from Relativity Sports and have been urging him to take the Clippers' offer instead while there's still time.
Sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard that Jordan has told people close to him since picking Dallas that he's still "torn" and "unsure" about his choice. The NBA's moratorium period at the start of July every year is designed to allow the league to calculate the precise new salary cap and luxury tax figures for the coming season. But teams and players are allowed to come to verbal agreements during the moratorium starting July 1. The first seven days of 2015 free agency produced a frenzy that has seen roughly 70 free agents come to terms on new contracts.

Depending on how you want to spin it, Cleveland hasn't retained its "core" as Smith is likely gone and it seems a staring contest has developed over Tristan Thompson, which makes the possibility of LeBron leaving rise from 0% to 1%.

So Deandre might go back to the Clips AND Cuban will still have to pay that $25,000 fine for talking about Deandre's commitment?
smh, brutal

I think this Deandre stuff is disgusting... Man! this would kill any plan B, C, or D the Mavs may have had in place. Disastrous for a franchise

If the Mavs loose DJ they likely end up in lottery and forfeit their pick to the Celtics.
Quick, who do we hate more?

The Mavs loss may be our boon. There's no use for 41 if you're going full tank.

DJ going to the mavs didn't make sense to me anyway. He wants to be an offensive option but has nothing close to a post game and in Dallas he'd be relying on the likes of Devin Harris as oppose to CP3, who might be the best point guard in the league. Let them hug it out and have Chris Paul pinky promise not to be mean to him.
