Backup PG

This seems to be the contentious position at the moment.

So let's take things as they are now, no more signings, no trades.

Who do you prefer as the backup PG out of these two

Mario or Shabazz.

Well, as long as Mario is on the team I'd be shocked if he wasn't used as the backup. I would like to see this team move him though in the offseason for a draft pick or packaging him for an upgrade at the backup spot(which I'm not sure is possible).

Mario has had his run and we know his virtues and limitations..If i had to pick either, it'd be Bazz...

Mario. Need vets if we plan to contend. Not second year question marks that still need time to grow.

Shabazz. I think he is more naturally talented. Not all players that turn out to be serviceable have good rookie seasons.

As a gif maker, Rio is a great source of inspiration !

I want Chalmers off the roster because, inexplicably, Spo has given him the longest leash out of everyone on the team. Spo will roll with his vets because he trusts them, even if something better is right there. I cannot stand to have this numbskull and his ego on my team any longer. I'll never forget him pounding the rock while Dragic stood in the corner only for him to drive baseline and dribble the ball off his foot. Or his inability to throw an entry pass or lob. Or shoot 3s.

I could see Miami holding on to Mario and moving him at the deadline when his value is higher with a few injuries around the league. Shabazz needs to take a huge step forward if he wants to see real minutes. He was afraid to shoot last year and lost his swagger. Loved how he ran a team but never really put it all together.

This is my biggest beef with Rio. People talk about having a veteran PG.... lmao Rio does not act like a vet. Makes the same mistakes EVERY GAME. Spo still goes with him despite it. Maybe we didnt have much options last year but my god we relied on this dude so badly, and he played badly. Rio had his moments, but the fact his 3 point shooting went from 38% to 29% is a huge drop. Before the big 3 era he wasnt even that good, and conveniently right after he stinks from the 3 point line

If Rio is willing to take a backseat, not play the end of games, I am fine with him (his defense is bad tho, its why he was 4th in the league in fouls) as back up PG.

Man Pat knew exactly what this team needed when he saw Rio and Cole stinking up this joint, a REAL point guard.

Also yeah I hated when Rio would ball handle and Goran is playing SG, and Rio isnt doing ****.... Again I will give Spo the benefit of the doubt that we just didnt have the guys last year but still, so **** bad that was. It irked me to no end. Still even in that situation Goran should play PG. Dont tell me its because Rio knows the system either, because Rio came out and said he didnt know his role lmao.

Now I dont know if Shabazz is the answer. If Shabazz played his game before he got his balls chopped off and went to the d league twice, then maybe there is potential there. But after his d league stint he wasnt the same player. The player in October-November was good for us.

Pablo Prigioni should be our backup PG. After we salary dump Chalmers and Birdman to the Rockets. Papanikolau, Prigioni and Dorsey. Dump Papagiorgio's non guaranteed deal and keep Prigioni as vet insurance on his cheap one year deal.

Pains me to say but I think RIO at the moment for a back up is more suitable than Bazz.

Solely for experience tbh.

I think Rio makes the most sense, even though he is boneheaded and not as good of a playmaker for his teammates as Napier. I think running offense through McRoberts is an option for the second unit, so we don't necessarily need that as much from Napier. Someone who is more of a scoring threat would be ideal, and thats Rio.

Yeah you aren't going to see Rio with much or any rope this season. The Heat have had there hands tied behind there backs for the past few years with salary being spent so they haven't been able to pick up a guard to replace Rio. Now that Dragic is here for a full training camp you aren't going to see much of Rio once he starts making mistakes. Heck Spo even started Norris Cole over that shows the team doesn't have confidence in him.

His value on the team right now is knowing the system, he is a value to helping the young kids learn quicker. Like a previous poster said above I would also like to see him moved at the deadline for an improvement for the team even if it's draft picks.

I hate rio haters. For you people who have jobs.

Rio the past year and one half has been like asking a coordinator to do a directors job because the company has no director level talent. Then getting mad at the coordinator for not doing his job correctly. No need to fire him, we've hired some directors and everything will be ok now.

edit:

and shabazz is still an intern

Chalmers has never been good at his own job. People need to stop making excuses for him and his inability to improve.

"meh" was created to describe Mario Chalmers.
