Lock thread pls
I said I wouldn't talk Lance anymore. I lied.
People react to his name, like the plague. I don't get it. I want to see the argument. The more I think about it... the more it makes sense and the more I get excited for the possibility. No better scenario in the league for us in terms of risk and reward that I can think about. Serious criticism and comments pls...
Our starting line-up was not/is not going to be a great 3pt shooting line-up... people need to stop pretending one exception can change that. We can get a shooter to replace one of the bench players but it's not going help our starters. Our starting line-up is special because we have offensive weapons at basically every position but alas...
Wade's our only facilitator that compliments our roster really well but just like Goran he's more of the score first type. Getting a facilitator that could compliment Wade/CB/and Hassan's game imo, could inspire some creativity and open up our offense for us. Defenses would not benefit in the slightest to giving extra space to a dangerous playmaker/scorer, it's the only way for us to make a break with our roster imo. Goran still has great intangibles but he's not and we're not going to prosper with him as one of our primary ball handlers. Goran's not shooting great this year with all that's going on but he's a career 36% shooter and I think he'd fit better here as a 3&D player and secondary ballhandler... if he'd be willing to accept the role.
Lance is one of the best ball handling wings in the league, him and Wade would be one of the most compatible duo's we'd have and could be a focal point for our offense. We'd have an identity and something to build on. IMO The concerns about his maturity are overblown anyway. He wants to win and over everything else, we need to get on that page. He hasn't received the trust he did in Indiana to play his game (elsewhere) but he's a proven player with real playoff experience still in his physical prime... like every player in the league not named Lebron(probably even Lebron), he hasn't seen the same success on other teams... especially being a player you can't build solely around. We have the right coach and personnel for him to be successful. Right now the market for him would suggest that we could get him for Deng or random fillers... JMO but he's the right player, for the right price, at the right age, at the right time. Convince me otherwise? srs answers

Re: Someone explain to me why this is crazy? Srsly
Bruh he sucks. He's a cancer and no one wants him. Why didn't he work out in Charlotte? Why didn't he work out in LA even though they basically gifted him a starting spot that was previously owned by Matt Barnes?
I'll tell you why, it because he sucks and is a jackass. He had a solid 14pts 7.5rebs 4asts season a couple of years ago in Indy but since then he's been awful where ever he has gone.
We wouldn't fix him, he'd break us. Our guys love each other, we don't need to bring someone like him into our locker room. That's something the Kings would do.

The worst shooting team in the league adds another guy who can't shoot? Great idea

If the trade is Deng/McBob for Redick/Lance then I'm all in. Otherwise, it's a huge risk.
If it's a McBob/Bird for Lance dump, then I would be tempted to give him a chance, with Deng taking over primary duties at the back-up 4. That would give us a free roster spot and the chance to test out another D-Leaguer, or take on a vet after the trade deadline. Getting another small asset would be nice, but they just don't have them.
Take that deal to the trade board, or to the Clippers board & see what they say.

a few jumbled thoughts here, I'll make it easier by making a lists. I think it's okay that you have this opinion, I just want a better understanding
1. Why do you think his impact was different from when he was on the Pacers compared to his time with the Hornets? From my perspective- He got to play on a team with very talented players and next to a PG that was willing to let him handle the ball and play his game. He went from playing next to a PG playing at 14% Usage to another ball dominant PG with 26% usage... and a far less talented team and less tolerant coach.
2. Do you think he could ever be as good as he was for the Pacers for another team? if not, why was his last two years there an anomaly? From my perspective- I think he can on the right team, he's still in his physical prime at 25 and never really lived on assisted baskets from other players...
3. What do you think warrants his label as a team cancer? From my perspective- I don't understand how this conclusion was drawn. I don't agree with the premises... teammates are going to disagree and have skirmishes, I haven't seen or heard of any instances of his teammates throwing him under the bus or vice/versa or any blaming from teammates

Who's minutes would Redick/Lance take?
I don't want it if it's not Deng/Lance and maybe one reserve as a filler, I'll see what some Clips fans think... I think some would be down... they're both FA's next year anyhow

If we wanted to do a Lance Stevenson experiment, how about signing him for veteran minimum next year?

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

If we got him now and he worked out, team option would be in our favor and there's lots of wrong that can happen if this ship wrecks itself this season. If our core doesn't work then I doubt we see an encore... I'm thinking best case scenario now cause later will be a little different

Cap space is pretty valuable right now. As I've pointed out countless times Hassan Whiteside's contract is one of the 3 most important things to do next offseason. A team option of Lance Stevenson costs us Whiteside. Why would we do that?
By the way, I think you mean "Poll" not "Pole". Still drinking Christmas spirits?

lol I know I misspelled it
Winning is a valuable perspective imo, especially if we fail to use our resources and meet expectations. Frustration could change things and sour them unsuspectingly. Thinking ahead in this situation is about being concurrent... if we get a lot worse and people are visibly frustrated then somethings going to have to be done regardless of our cap. And right now we look terrible, we just don't have the record to prove it.

Bosh & Wade's postgame interviews do not reflect visible frustration. Wade recognized the ugly performance. Bosh feels (I think) that he came out on top of Anthony Davis. It's hard to argue that his stat line is both vexing and impressive, but his perspective is more centered on defense. We broke up the plays that we needed to in the end, but we made a game that should have been easier much more difficult.
When you say you don't see the core continuing, the only "core" I see are Bosh & Wade who are responsible for our success and failure 90% of the time. Do you envision Bosh leaving, because who else could you mean? Wade will probably be here a long, long time.

I would see Redick/Lance taking all of Dengs minutes & some of Greens. I would also give them some of McBob/UDs & move Winslow to a small-ball 4 for that period.
I don't think Deng for Lance makes us any better, I would rather it be for McBob/Bird & play more Deng at the 4.

Not frustration now, but if we don't improve or even get exposed.
Our core currently: Bosh/Wade/Whiteside/Dragic.

One of the biggest problems is Lance does not run an offense well. He actually does things outside of the offense. Plus he is not a shooter, he is a head down penetrator. Teams already pack the paint, its a bad fit for him. He needs to be on a team that stretching the court so he can have room to penetrate. Teams will play him no differently than Deng. He is gonna penetrate and run into a break wall.
Of all the complaints of Deng, he is a great fit defensively. Lance is neither a great fit offensively or defensively.

wow, that's an interesting take... but thanks for answering the OP, the generalized statements and puns can get nauseating.
Well as for running an offense, that's not what I think he'd come here and do. Wade runs the offense and Lance could be a secondary ballhandler and help him with ball-movement/get better shots. If you're arguing that he isn't a good ballhandler then idk, his final year in Indy he assisted more baskets than anyone on the team, had an percentage of team assisted baskets of the top PG's then... I might need a little clarification on what you mean about that and "thing's outside of the offense"... not sure I've ever heard that one before.
As for him needing a team that stretches the court, he played on one of the biggest/conventional teams in Indy. They were near the bottom of the league in pace and offensive efficiency while playing four 7 footers every night. He's not a great shooter but that's not the limits to his game, he's a great slasher and facilitator. The threat that his court vision and ability to create his own shot presents makes him 10x harder to guard then Luol.. who's shot you'll live with more then half of the time. Even now his jumper is still improving, he's only 25. His last season in Indy he shot 38% on catch and shoot 3's and was shooting 40% as a starter on the Clips while putting up the best +/- by far for any Clipper line-up this season... in the right scheme, I think he could be a lot more effective than Deng here.
As for his defense, I've no clue where the stigma that he's a bad defender come from. He's got a calling for his aggressive defense. At this point in his career he is a more than likely a better on-ball defender than lu' and I honestly don't think he would have any problems adapting to our defense, at all. I'm cool with your opinion, jst curious how you came to some of these conclusions, again thanks for reading the OP and giving an actual reply.
Our offense is going to be run through dwyane regardless, getting a player that compliments his game and makes it easier for him is our best chance scenario. We've got two glaring issues and I think one is much bigger than the other but everyone pretends not to see the elephant in the room. Shooting has reared us but our starters not fitting in together's definitely the elephant, we're not going anywhere if we can't fix that or accommodate for our lack of an offensive identity. Wade can't do it himself and Dragic doesn't fit in with this roster, we already knew that, that's likely not going to change. Finding a role for him and the intangibles that we can use is the best that we can do this year. We have shooters, of which haven't gotten a chance to get in rhythm, the latter won't change unless something is done. Lance is one of the best wing facilitators in the league and is a great slasher, him and Wade are one of the great opposites... they'd fit in together almost effortlessly imo, not to mention all the looks they could make for everyone else... would make defining roles a lot simpler for us. He's young, undeniably talented, experienced, plausibly cheap and available. For a team looking at foreseeable uncertainty, he's literally our best case scenario right now and I'd really like to be convinced otherwise.
