Heat sign Derrick Williams

Welcome to the Heat.

he did cross my mind for targets but thought the Heat would pass since he is basically just like Beasley as far as skill set and disappointment.

Good- He can definitely get buckets, likes to shoot , confident with his handle
Bad- Undersized at the pf which is his natural preferred spot, defense.

$5mil is a bargain for a one highly regarded prospect who still has skill

An undersized PF, #2 pick bust out of a stacked class.

Wait, this is not Beasley we are talking about?

A Beasley redux but we got him at a relatively decent price. He is still 25 and UD can mentor him. I wish he was a better rebounder.

He's young/athletic? :dontknow:

We lowered our average age and have another option for random alley's (Might be it, for upside portion...)

Welcome, Spo prolly won't try to take your girl

He was ok for ny. He does his best when the team is running, otherwise not as useful.

Undersized PF? Dude it's 2016 if you haven't noticed the league is full of Tweeners.

I always thought he was Beasley 2.0, maybe less stupid. Meh, he is athletic and apparently can run. Decent price honestly.

Knick fan coming here in peace. I wanted to share with you what to expect from D-Will as a member of the Heat:

Strengths:

1) He's best suited for an up-tempo style of offense.
2) If you have an offense that utilizes backdoor cuts, he'll feast off those and turn those opps into alley-oop dunks.
3) He can get to the line.
4) He can dunk with just force and nasty to it.

Weaknesses:

1) Can't stay on the floor longer because he's not a great rebounder or defender consistently.
2) Not really much of a passer, so don't expect the ball to move around if he gets it.
3) Hits the corner three at a decent clip, but ends up taking more more threes from the top than on the corners, which is a reason he's not shooting as well as he should be.
4) 50% shooter from 2, but it's a funny breakdown because he's almost unstoppable under the rim dunking and is shooting 45% from mid-range (10-16 ft), but is less than 30% shooting from 3-10 ft and 35% from long 2. Sadly, it's a trend his entire career which is why he's not as consistent of a force in the half-court game as many wished he'd be.

Thanks! I remember Derrick from his Sacramento and college days. I liked him on the Knicks. Great energy.

We're probably going to make him a better rebounder and perimeter defender or he won't get on the floor. That's the rules down here. Everyone defends first.

Phish On!

He wouldn't have even been our 14th man last season.

D-Will doesn't force like Beasely though.

If you put him in a structured offense he'll play hard and know his role.

Does he have great basketball IQ? No, but he can make great cuts and will do work with Dragic. He's a solid piece off the bench, especially for the price.
