The Rodney McGruder thread

It just has to happen.

This is the player I've most enjoyed watching this season so far.

He puts such great effort into every play. His defense is wonderful and his shooting is looking more NBA every game. 50% from the floor with double figures in the last 4 games.

Let's give Rodders some love.

And a great example for why Brianté should be trying out his stuff in Miami.

I would have loved to have kept Bri as well, but there were just too many guaranteed contracts. Even Uncle Beno had to go to make way for McGruder.

Bri lighting things up and Beans being second in Ast/TO Rating does hurt tho

We have to bring Weber in as soon as possible. It was a mistake to let him go. The Heat could theoretically apply for hardship and claim him now and then we can keep him until one of our injured players (Bosh for example) returns at which point a player would have to be released. For reference, our injury list over the last four games:

Chris Bosh is out indefinitely.

Tyler Johnson Day-To-Day Nov 29
Comment: Johnson (mouth) is considered questionable to play Wednesday against the Nuggets, Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald reports.

Justise Winslow Out Nov 29
Comment: Winslow (wrist) will not travel with the Heat on their upcoming three-game roadtrip, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Dion Waiters Out Nov 29
Comment: Waiters (groin) will not travel with the Heat on their upcoming three-game roadtrip, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Hassan Whiteside Day-To-Day Nov 28
Comment: Whiteside is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Celtics with a left knee injury.

Willie Reed Out Nov 28
Comment: Reed (knee) will play in Monday's game against the Celtics.

Tyler Johnson Day-To-Day Nov 28
Comment: Johnson will not play in Monday's game against the Celtics after having surgery on his mouth, Anthony Chiang of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Dion Waiters Day-To-Day Nov 28
Comment: Waiters (groin) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Celtics.

Justise Winslow Out Nov 27
Comment: Winslow (wrist) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Celtics, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Willie Reed Out Nov 27
Comment: Reed (knee) is listed as questionable for Monday's tilt with the Celtics, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Goran Dragic Day-To-Day Nov 27
Comment: Dragic (elbow) is questionable for Monday's game against the Celtics, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Dion Waiters Day-To-Day Nov 27
Comment: Waiters is listed as questionable for Monday's matchup with the Celtics due to a strained right groin, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Wayne Ellington Out Nov 27
Comment: Ellington (wrist) is still considered day-to-day, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. "Everything is day to day," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He hasn't done a practice yet, so I mean that's too early to tell."

Wayne Ellington Out Nov 26
Comment: Ellington (quadriceps) is out for Saturday's game against the Grizzlies, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Willie Reed Out Nov 26
Comment: Reed (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Grizzlies, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Goran Dragic Day-To-Day Nov 26
Comment: Dragic (elbow) has been declared out for Saturday's game against the Grizzlies, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Justise Winslow Out Nov 26
Comment: Winslow (wrist) is considered doubtful for Saturday's game against the Grizzlies.
Willie Reed Out Nov 26
Comment: out

From the cba.faq:

A hardship can be deemed to exist when a team has four players who are sick or injured and have missed at least three games, and will continue to be unable to play. If a hardship is granted, the hardship ends when one of the sick or injured players is physically able to resume playing. The team must then release player(s) to get back to the roster limit, although teams have the option to retain the hardship player and release a different player to get back to the limit.

They know this though and they also know the risks of leaving Weber in the D-League ready to be snatched, so I can't help but think that there is another motivation. Winslow not going on the road trip is surprising.

Memphis used it last year FOUR times, including once to bring in Weber.

We have to keep in mind that there are 3 provisions involved with our current Bosh situation:

1. The common one that we discussed last year (which must be filed before Jan 15) allows us to get back a player that makes up to half of a disabled player's salary. The player has to be disabled for the remainder of the year. We won't use this because we will probably just waive Bosh on March 2. This is the "Disabled Player Exception"

http://www.nba.com/key-dates

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q25

2. The cap relief (one year after Bosh's last game):

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q63

3. Roster relief, which I quoted in the previous post:

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q79

search for "hardship"

Despite all indications, I think we're not going to go this route. We are getting really close to Dec 15. Why preempt things by complicating? Look for a trade instead. I don't see a generic trade speculation thread and I don't want to contribute to the stupid Dragic for Gay thread. We really should have one about strategic speculation, right? A central place where we can do something besides rant... Question: If we did do this and one of the players (Reed most likely) returns from injury, *which* player do we release? We can't release Bosh for obvious reasons until at least Feb 9 without kissing cap relief goodbye.

Improbable

1. Wayne Ellington
2. Luke Babbitt
3. Willie Reed
4. James Johnson
5. Josh McRoberts
6. Dion Waiters
7. Derrick Williams
8. Rodney McGruder
9. Udonis Haslem

Impossible

10. Hassan Whiteside
11. Josh Richardson
12. Tyler Johnson
13. Justise Winslow
14. Goran Dragic
15. Chris Bosh

We'd be crazy guard heavy to have Bri now but I rather he be here and under contract than not

Babs needs to forfeit his seat like he should've rightfully done before the start of this season

You should start a trade/speculation thread , it will devolve into a stupid Dragic-Gay thread but at least it could be generic

But... Babbitt can be trade filler before Dec 15. He wasn't signed as a free agent in the off season. Riley may be a fan, but another reason to keep him is to do a deal if something comes up before Dec. 15.

McRoberts can also be used as filler, but he comes with a $6M price tag for next year. I'm so inclined to waive him, but that's emotions speaking. McRoberts was a terrible signing.

As long as Babbitts gone soon after December but if we need to be quick to try to keep Bri then waive Babs first.

Babbitt has an inconsistent shot, but he's an expiring contract on a $1.2M deal. McRoberts: (##@@@€€€$$$$$$$$)

Half of #HeatNation would pack his bags and the other half drive him to the airport.
