If we could pull off Wall & Boogie... Would you want it?

Post#1 » by walk with me » Fri Dec 23, 2016 2:06 am

This thread is less so about making it happen, but in the event we could. Would you want it?

Just thinking about "quick rebuild" type of moves that could actually put us in a position to contend.

Sure.

The downside of a few techs and some local reporters getting their feelings hurt every now and again would be totally worth attaining the best center in basketball and one of the best PG's.

Nah, just wall.

Wall & Cousins are high usage players. I don't think they'd mesh well. To get both would require us giving up our youth.

Might be
Might not be

But when you look at lotto pick rookies in the nba...

They probably come in as 18-19 year olds. None really are franchise corners stones until their 3rd year or later and that's very generous. Look at Kat for example. Mega dominant ROTY and the wolves are one of the weaker teams in the west and have Wiggins and Levine.

I don't see pat wanting to rebuild using new players

Ya,but why can't we just use the players we have?? I don't really understand getting rid of already decent/good core. We will have possibly Mcrob and Waiters as expirings and we can trade them for another decent guy too. Don't think we need to get rid of Dragic either, a two more ultra versatile players and were back in the playoffs.

I like our core of young players. I might be willing to part with Josh in a package for Wall, but not interested in acquiring both of those guys. I'm not convinced Cousins can be a championship player, but I think Wall in a stable organization would be a problem.

This is the plan. Keep Winslow or Richardson. Add pick + cash and build contender.

February will be FUN.

I was all for boogie until this last incident with the reporter. Would rather keep whiteside.

No, because what it'll take to accquire both likely means trading all of the remaining assets, while putting a bunch of marginal players around them via FA.

I like Wall and Cousins as players, but to get them you're likely giving up Winslow; the 2017 pick, and possibly Tyler and/or Josh. Now it's sounds great to have Wall and Cousins, but how are you going to fill out the team with no other trade assets and the FA market being inflated?

A Wall Boogie Heat team would be similar to the Big 3 Era, where you have several big talents and not much else. The Big 3 was able to overcome their lack of depth due to the dominance of Bron and Wade, Boogie and Wall are nowhere near Bron and Wade as players.

Because role players are only any good if they compliment a star player. Hench you build around stars. you don't build around role players. Look at Chicago, two star players with good role players. But the role players do not compliment Wade and Butler. So you find the stars then add complimentary players

Of course I'd want it. It's a very difficult thing to pull off, though. The city and organization would be the only things that could make us appealing for those two, we have nothing else to offer. (Considering we'd have to give up assets to get them)

Wall and Cousins' usages are so high because their teams are trash. That's a great 1 & 2 option duo. Wall is a great playmaker and penetrator while Cousins is good on the pick 'n' roll. They'd mesh just fine.

Also I don't buy the whole headcase thing. I think both Wall and Cousins are just frustrated with wasting their prime on teams that are going nowhere. Even if the headcase thing was a big factor, we're probably the best team in the league in dealing with headcases.

At the cost of stripping our roster bare? I don't know if Cousins is worth the jump from Whiteside. We would still need that 3rd star to even hope to hang with Cleveland and all our assets would be gone from trading for these two. So that leaves free agency. Good luck convincing a max star to possibly omit $100 million to come down here. That's also hoping we don't get caught with Bosh's paperweight contact.

I don't know. I'd have to see how Cousins did in the Olympics.

I'm also having a discussion on the PC board about this argument. I think it makes little sense. Some players don't play well in the international ball. Tim Duncan was absolutely terrible with the Team USA. Does that take away anything from him?
