We're crippling Ellington's trade value by attaching McBob ... and he doesn't have much value to begin with.

That's the way picks work.

It's like buying a lottery ticket, you do it even though your chances of winning are less than your whole neighbourhood being wiped out rather than put that little money into a college account each week for 18 years.

The reason is simply - you don't get chit for being mediocre.

The goal of NBA basketball is winning the ship, and you ain't winning it with "solid, decent players".

This means you have to take gambels at times, you can't settle for an ok team with no upside.

To go with your methaphore - it's like saving 2$ a week when your end goal is buying a 500,000$ house. You're never going to get there without making a drastic change.

Exactly. Solid decent players are a dime a dozen, and can be had at any time.

McBob needs to grow back his beautiful flowing golden locks. Its hurting his trade value.
Babbitt needs to get that head of hair of his back too.

Harjo wrote:If Riley can get an Ellington-McRoberts deal done today, I'll bow down to him.

Ellington is a very good player, but we have enough guards and if you tell me that we will go into the offseason with 12M more in cap space, with a total of 54M available behind Whiteside, Dragic, Winslow, Tyler J., J.Richardson, Haslem, McGruder, White and one or 2 rookies from the Draft, I'll bite your hands off.

We could then resign Waiters and James Johnson for 25M the first year, and still have 29M to sign either a whale or a few very, very good players in the offseason.

And if Riley can't convince any GM to take McRoberts, I hope he still trades Ellington for Terrence Jones and a second rounder.

Ellington doesn't really need to be traded. We have a team option for him. It is at a great value though, given how the market is so inflated now.

this is where we can disagree. You need some solid foundations to either trade or entice the stars to come.

To go with your metaphore - you save the $2 a week for and by the 18th year you have enough for the deposit on that house you wanted.

And while you may not be winning a championship, would you rather watch a team win 50 games a year or lose 50 games a year? It's a pretty easy choice for me.

Ellengiton positive value negates Mcbob's negative value.

NBA is in a weird place. Role players getting near max deals and teams trading for bench players using 1st round picks. What a time to be alive.
