There is a report that DeAngelo can be had for a 1st round pick.
What if we trade 14 for him and then trade TJ for an early 2nd or late 1st to take our big?

We definitely need to unload that contract. it will be disastrous to our cap situation in 2018 and 2019

If Donovan Mitchell were 6'6 w/o shoes, he'd be a Top 5 pick.

Re: 2017 Draft Thread 2.0- Something to... Lmfao.. lol @
Here is my review of the draft two days before:
Jonathan Isaac - brilliant prospect, still a couple years away. Big SF who can also play PF. Good presence around the basket. Looks like he will be able to score all over the court eventually. I love the guards on top and think Josh Jackson will be great too, but Isaac is my favorite player in the draft. Five years from now, I see him doing great things for some team. No way he falls though.
Dennis Smith - despite questionable shooting, he is an NBA point guard: explosive, smart, and excellent ball handling. I know we have Dragic so PG isn't a priority, and Smith - unlike some others - is no combo guard. Even so, you take him anyway if he drops to us. He won't.
Lauri Markannen - starting stretch PF in the NBA. Has good shooting range and an inside game. Smart player too. Needs to improve his defense, but the Heat are the right team to teach him. It would be a huge mistake for a team above us not to draft Markannen, but if he falls to us, damn...
Zach Collins - I was so impressed by the South Carolina game. This is a very polished 19-year-old who I see as a stretch PF or C in the league. I can't imagine him falling to #14, but if he did, we should party.
Frank Ntilikina - Another player who should not drop to us, but like Dennis Smith, I can see Ntilikina as good enough to run an NBA offense. It is unlikely he is available at #14 (Dallas or New York should take him) and also we don't need a PG, but you go BPA at #14 or you deal down.
Justin Patton - I know he's not popular on the board, but I love this kid's energy and athleticism. I'd ask Whiteside to tutor him for a few years, get him into Snapchat, and so forth. Big future.
And that's it for anyone potentially dropping to our range. Otherwise, I trade down.
Here are some deals we could possibly attempt:
McRoberts + 14 + cash to Nets for #22, #27, & #57.
Gives the Nets a lottery pick that they need more than we do.
At #22 I take the best of the next tier:
Ivan Rabb (good PF prospect), TJ Leaf (good shooter, limited defense & upside), Isaiah Hartenstein (who is the International from Oregon with a bad attitude), Caleb Swanigan (Purdue's best player last year), Terrance Ferguson, Luke Kennard, Justin Jackson. I prefer a PF. With #27, the only player I want is Semi Oyeleye (another of my favorites), but if he's gone, I'd like to see what Dillon Brooks, Jordan Bell, Derrick White, Johnathan Motley, or Sindarius Thornwell can do. They are all potential bench role players in the NBA, but we have a good staff and might be able to unlock more.
At #57, we can pick up a guard like Frank Mason to develop at Sioux Falls. He can shoot. Another guy I like (an International so 0% chance we draft him) is the Romanian that plays in Greece, Alek Vezenkov. Check him out.
Another potential candidate is Portland. The Trailblazers have almost $135M on the books after they waive Festus Ezeli, so they'll be looking to cut their salary any way they can.
#14 + McRoberts for #15 & #20 plus Meyers Leonard's 3-year deal:
$9,904,494
$10,595,506
$11,286,517
Picking up McRoberts's contract (which can be stretched to 3 years of $2.3M) saves them $25M over 3 years. It doesn't solve their problem, but it helps. If they can also send Evan Turner and the #15 out that gets them almost under the cap. I think Brooklyn (who has a ton of cap space) would like that trade. Certainly, Nets would take Allan Crabbe & #15 as a salary dump for minimal returned assets.
So, Meyers Leonard is a 7'1" PF/C who stretches the floor. In 5000 NBA minutes, he shoots 3s at 37%. Last year he took 1 3-point shot every 6 minutes on the floor and his success rate was much lower. His defense is very poor, getting outrebounded and unable to protect the net. He very rarely can block shots even though he is 7-1 & 245 lbs. He will have to get much more fit if he hopes to get on the floor. Still worse case scenario, Meyers can stretch the floor.
We would still be able to sign James Johnson to a 3/36 deal and Dion Waiters to a 3/40 deal. I'm not really interested in getting into a bidding war for these guys. I'm confident the Heat can find replacements for them if another team goes all-in. I also think that teams will be reluctant to overpay Waiters. Here are a few players I'd look to bring in if we miss out on JJ and/or Waiters: JaMychal Green (PF), Omri Casspi, KCP, Andre Iguodala, PJ Tucker, Nikola Mirotic, Taj Gibson, Jonathon Simmons, Joe Ingles, Amir Johnson, Shabazz Muhammad, CJ Miles, and Luc Mbah a Moute. I wouldn't chase Danilo Gallinari, Gordon Hayward, Paul Millsap, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, or Dwyane Wade. We are not a contender.
That's my take (so far.)

Only for one season. We can resign TJ to a longer contract (for more money over more years) in 7/2019.

I honestly think he's the organization's #1 option. Question is will he make it to us. All depends on what the Pistons do

No, it isn't.
Curry-Thompson-Durant-Green-Iguodala-Pachulia is a contender.
We're not a contender. We're years away and it's important now to know who and what we are.
I'd pass on Donovan Mitchell and Luke Kennard. They are not special and do not help us in our position of need.

Because they aren't that good mostly. I prefer to trade down and try to draft a couple outsiders that may take longer to develop, but we've shown we can do that with TJ, Richardson, McGruder, and White. Picking up less notable players like Caleb Swanigan and Johnathan Motley isn't sexy or headlines-grabbing, but they can be molded into key players for the future when we *are* ready.

A team full of TJs, Richardsons, Mcgruders etc. ain't doing anything in 10 years. Mitchell is special. He Has huge upside on both ends of the court.
