Hi all!

I wrote for www.16winsaring.com about how, after a huge turnaround, Miami has a really interesting summer coming.

Take a look if you want and let me know what you think:

just read your piece and thank you.this summer should be fun.i trust the godfather will put a competent team once again.

i also think that haslem, mcroberts and winslow should go or the later traded for a more seasoned proven defender with offensive skills as well.now that i think about it,miami just would need to downgrade winslow to the Dleague for seasoning if they want to keep him

Is Tyler Johnson better than Dion Waiters?

Good article.

I don't agree that Miami should let the likes of Waiters and Johnson go and retry signing undervalued players that are looking to restart their career. It's not a long term strategy and they wouldn't be trade chips just like Waiters and Johnson weren't, because they'll be expiring contract. And you don't sign such vétérans to long term contracts without knowing if they'll be good enough. We didn't do that last summer to Waiters and Johnson for a reason.

I think we should bring back both Waiters and Johnson for sure, they're ready to take a few millions less than somewhere else I believe. Try to keep Reed with the exception while going for a 4 in the market that is going to make our starting 5 super competitive. A player like Millsap, like Ibaka, Gallinari or even PJ Tucker. If there is some space then bring back Babbitt for cheap money, he can be quite useful.

With such a group, you try to find the limits of the team and see where Winslow, Waiters and our upcoming rookie go. You can then make décisions: keep this team together because Waiters/Winslow is becoming a Franchise Player, or trade some of our assets to get a whale.

Peak Waiters might be the better all around player but we're not sure if peak Waiters or new Waiters. We'll have to find out. Tyler's really consistent(Motor-wise) but limited... Not sure how limited but limited

Well the problem is that Waiters and Johnson will get paid, either here or with another team. Isn't next years draft pick going to the Suns unprotected? Say Waiters gets 20 mil (market rate) and the rest goes to Johnson. We would be locked to this team for the future. Also the Tyler issue will come into play. Tyler will get paid 20mil so looking at that as a base point watch Waiters get 20 easily.

No one is going to pay Waiter 20 million dollars.

 Waiters isn't getting 20 mil and Tyler is only the books at 19 mil for 1 year before he can opt out and work out a longer term deal that helps the team and still gets him paid.

If Waiters plays good in the playoffs watch some team like the Nets offer him 20 mil. All it takes is one team to over pay. If anything we should have leaned these past offseasons is that teams will over pay.

As for Tyler if he wanted to he could have taken the same deal with a more team friendly cap spread but choose not to. Lets repeat that, he chose not to, he didnt want to get traded. Now the argument is Tyler will opt out of 20 mil while he is still young instead of cashing in his 20 and then hit the FA market. Tyler is not an old player? Doesnt really make much sense does it?

I think you're not getting the point. He can still get the same amount of money, just structured in a different manner.

I wouldn't be mad if Pat reached out to Timmy Jr this summer. Not just for sentimental reasons, he's looking pretty good lately, shooting 54% from 2 and 36% from 3. Per 36: 19.4 pts, 3.6 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl, 1.7 tov. I wonder how high the Hawks would go because last yr it looked like they weren't high on him.

Only makes sense if Dion walks. Even then I'm not yet convinced they dont get similar offers on the open market, in which case the smarter investment is in the player you already have in your system

I think Dion won't get more than $12-14 mil per year in a multi-year deal
