The New York Knicks are one of our 3 greatest rivals, at least in the Eastern Conference, but I can think of no opponent we (or they) fight so hard. Two finals give the Mavericks and Spurs a leg up in the "greatest rivals" contest.
We have played a total of 143 games, more than any other opponent in our history. We have a losing record in the regular season and a narrow advantage in playoff games:
114 regular season games (53-61)
29-28 at home [OUR WINNING RECORD IS AT STAKE]
24-33 in New York
Season series: 9-12-7
Currently (1-1 with 1 home to play)
29 playoff games (15-14)
Playoff Series (2-3)
2012: (4-1)
2000: (3-4)
1999: (2-3)
1998: (2-3)
1997: (4-3)
My favorite was 1997 when we overturned a 1-3 deficit to win 4-3.
We are now 9 point favorites for this game. For us, this game is important because we are in playoff contention. For a certain part of the Knicks fan base, many I have as friends (but basketball rivals), a victory over Miami (and claiming another annual victory in the regular season rivalry) is a measure of pride.
The knicks have nothing to lose.
