It depends on who makes the All-NBA teams, but I would expect Pat to target both Blake and Hayward if Hayward isn't eligible for the "supermax". I don't see Pat being content with keeping the current team together or making a incremental improvements. If we want to surpass the Cavs and compete with the Warriors, it's going to take major moves. If it's possible, Pat will pull the trigger.

It wouldn't surprise me if most of the team is new next season.

How much space do we need to create to be able to sign both Blake and Gordon? And what is the simplest way of creating that space?

I'm too lazy to figure it out right now, can someone else do the math?

Dragic would have to get moved. I don't see any way around that.

And obviously we wouldn't be able to re-sign JJ and Dion.

A trade for PG. Followed by a hail mary for Gordon Hayward. Followed by resigning Dion and JJ.

Personally I'd go after Hayward but not Griffin. Griffin is a hell of a player, but I don't ever want have all of our salary in our starting lineup and have a garbage 2nd unit again.

I'd also prioritize keeping JJ over Waiters. I really like having a strong 2nd unit with JJ & TJ.

We should be targeting either Griffin or Hayward. Absolutely.

Don't get me wrong, I love JJ and would be extremely happy to keep him. But Griffin and Hayward are All-NBA calibre players. Add one of them to our lineup and we immediately go top 4 in the East, which means we can compete for a Finals berth. If forced to pick, would love Hayward - he's shown he can play in the playoffs and isn't just a regular season fancy.

Not sure if we'd have the space for Hayward and JJ?

Dragic
JRich
Hayward
JJ
Whiteside

Bench: Winslow, TJ, Ellington, Pick #14 (Giles?)

or:

Dragic
Waiters
Winslow
Griffin
Whiteside

Bench: JRich, TJ, Ellington, Pick #14 (Jackson or Anunoby?)

Either of those are very good teams. I'd worry a little about spacing in the Griffin lineup though, unless Justise really hones that corner three.

Stay away from: Ibaka, Milsap, Melo

Resign: JJ and Mion for less than 30 mil

Add someone like: Tucker, Chandler, Patterson, Bojan

I think trading Hassan would make more sense in this scenario

Slightly OT, but it'd be funny if Hayward leaves Utah to come here, since most of our core players(Whiteside; J Rich, Dragic) are more or less replicas of most of the Jazz core players(Gobert; Hood, Hill).

If we have a choice(lol) I'd much rather go with Gordon than Blake. We've dealt with a superstar with shot knees enough for 3 lifetimes.

Okay, so I thought I'd do my own rough calculations and it would be about $17m we'd need to clear (on top of renouncing Ellington).

Trading Dragic for space would get it done, but then the team looks a lot less attractive. Not to mention that we would need to hope a PG fell in the draft, otherwise we're looking at TJ/J-Rich/vet min rotation at PG for the season.

So the next thing is to trade Whiteside, and that creates a pretty big hole (which will be hard to fill). We can take back around $6m in salary, so a young or back-up C would work, but then it's probably less attractive to Blake as he won't have a defensive anchor next to him.

Unless we can get a good (but cheap) return for Whiteside, or strike gold with a rookie who is ready to play, then the 2-star dream of mine is probably gone. So, instead I have to hope for Hayward & JJ, with a solid pick for my dream offseason.

If he doesn't than whatever. We're not exactly talking about Tim Duncan here. He's injury prone and as far as I am concerned, has yet to have a dominant playoff run. I think JJ is a more complete player than him.

We just need to quit this whole line of thinking in the past & look to build our future. I love Beas and would love to have him back, but no.
