And obviously we wouldn't be able to re-sign JJ and Dion.

I think trading Hassan would make more sense in this scenario

How do we plug the hole in the middle?

I don't know, maybe Reed and JJ

Resign JJ/Dion

opt-in on Ellington, sign another low-profile shooter if possible unless clear shot at Griffin

That's not even possible. Hayward would have to sign at a discount just to afford one of those guys, unless you intend to dump Ellington ... and that's assuming we can move McRoberts.

There probably wouldn't be room for the additional shooter after re-signing JJ & Dion and picking up the option on Ellington. At that point it's probably Babbitt or bust.

We just need to quit this whole line of thinking in the past & look to build our future. I love Beas and would love to have him back, but no.

Or our first priority could be to bring back Wade and Beas.

Do it Riley.

#1 get rid of McRoberts, and #2 bring back Chalmers (remember the Big 4) and the Heat instantly look sexy to anyone that wants to contend

At the very least resigning Waiters and James Johnson. The one thing the heat lacked last year was trading chips.

Trade McRoberts and Ellington for a good small forward.

If we resign Waiters and Johnson, along with draft pick it would look like:

PG: Goran Dragic/ TJ
SG: Dion Waiters/ Josh Richardson/ Wayne Ellington
SF: Justise Winslow/ Rodney McGruder/ Okaro White
PF: James Johnson
C: Hassan Whiteside

Whom ever we draft, its a good chance they will be brought in to fill some depth at the C/PF similar to Harry Giles.

That in total should give the Heat 10 attractive trading pieces. Might be able to re-explore past trade scenarios like Okafor. But I do think if they play well like they did last year, we may have a good chance in trading for Paul George.

Then add Winslow.

How much $ will we have left after doing this? We should have our exception which i believe we will offer to Reed. But what do we have after that just the min?

Assuming the Bosh space comes through, and Dion & Reed opt out, we have $37m in space, minus the capholds for the pick & the 2 roster spots needed to make to 12. At that point we have:
PG: Goran Dragic/ TJ
SG: Josh Richardson/ Wayne Ellington
SF: Justise Winslow/ Rodney McGruder/ Okaro White
PF:
C: Hassan Whiteside

If Reed will accept the MLE then he can be the final piece. I think it's a reasonable price for a 3-year, but he may get more on the open market. Then we need to add to the PF stock - I assume we will pick someone who can play PF, but we need more than a rookie.

Trying to fit Dion/JJ/Gay into the space we have might be the best way to upgrade depth and talent at the same time.

If there will be only one choice between JJ and Dion, I'll choose JJ.

PF is the position of need.
With the Heat cap space, I'll sign JJ and try to add a big man who can play both center and PF like IBaka and then Willie Reed is expendable. The rest of the cap may go with a back PG or Dion if he takes less.

A rotation of Hassan, Ibaka & JJ at Pf/C would be very nice.

$37?

Not good. I believe that each of Dion, & JJ will get 14/15mil. Thats 30 mil right there. Willie (if he takes the offer) is the mid like you said. How do we sign Gay?

If we could get Dion, JJ, Gay, & Reed, back then we definetly need to do it.

Ellington could resign for more years at less $.

Reed will get offers from other team so that one will be hard to do. So if Gay would sign for that it would work but i dont see that happening.

Say you are right & it can happen how do you see the math working out?

The amount of people saying to resign Dion Waiters though.....Image

Yall were really fooled by play, play that wasn't even really good btw, by a poor player in a contract year. I can see bringing back James Johnson but noooo to Dion Waiters on a multi-year deal. I hope JJ will take a one year deal.

For big fish, I think we should go after Hayward with everything, and if we don't get him, trade all our trash pieces for Wade as a stop gap. I know Wade haters are about to cry about this post, but the purpose would be so that we don't have to sign a bunch of useless middle tier players to bloated contracts and be stuck with them for years. We'll have another development year yes, but Wade will expire after that and we'll get a ton of space back. So then we'll have cap space to go after Westbrook and Paul George.

I do not know what the hell Rudy Gay was thinking opting out of his contract. I think he gonna get a rude awakening
